Drying upright also makes buds retain a natural look ...easier to trim...sugar leaves really stand out. I stand mine in paper bags inside a controlled air flow box...

I use a good ole 6 tier mesh drying rack. Put a box fan underneath on low. Takes 5 to 7 days before ready for jars. I've heard a lot of you don't want air directly blowing on them, but it reduces the chance of mold and frequent checks prevent over drying. Works for me.

Personally I use a ac infinity 6" variable speed fan attached to dry box to "draw" air past buds...adjust air flow according to ambient rh for slow dry.

I just checked the first girl I chopped in this run. At 12 full days this afternoon, stems still bend and can't pull off any leaves using the same kind of box I made. Humidity runs at 65% and 64-66*F in the room. I imagine I may not be able to do that this summer, unless I chop all and dry in the tent with the portable a/c and humidifier in the walk-in closet.
There sure as hell not going to be any hay smell or taste with that frosty girl!

WAIT! With the amount of sugar on the sugar leaves of your plants you trim them off? Say it ain't so man!!! :nono:
Naaaa.......I cut off a stem and then trim all the fan leaves. Those leaves get thrown into a tote with a cooking media. Then it gets trimmed over my trim bin. I'll save them for making hash later.I wanted a very slow dry this time with both girls being VERY frosty.
Otherwise I would have done a wet trim, dry in big paper bags and a fresh frozen dry ice hash run with the sugar leaves

Do you dry it upright? If so thats an interesting idea..
I dry upright when the plants aren’t so big it would top over my drying rack! Def makes it easier to trim! Even the sugar leafs that do kinda still curl around the bud the “sugar” side is facing up so it’s not like Velcro sticking them to the buds!

And all mine get saved for coconut oil or tincture for edibles for mí madre!

Holy Shit Ba
