How much curing do you do before you squish? Or just dry to target humidity? 60RH?
Best Rosin is made frrom approx day 3 drying. Before the bud is even dry enough to smoke. The terpenes are still fresh and moisture is mostly gone. Rosin will be clear or white looking. Taste is at its peak, due to fresh terpenes. Once the bud is dried, the color amd taste changes. Next best Rosin is made from 62% Cured buds. Color will be darker once cured, but flavors will be nicer than when uncured. You have a very small window of opprotunity for FRESH PRESSED ROSIN. Only a few days. Those few days where the buds are slightly too moist to smoke and stems dont quite snap. Too ealry and it will be watery. Too late and tastes/flavor is not as intense. Really I press those few days for personal use only. Its the cream of the crop, so savor it while those few days allow. Aiming for quality, with short squish times and low temps. You will feel spoiled once you do dabs of fresh pressed rosin. Good luck, slow

Right on. Thanks for the info. I have a 3 ton press I have been using to squish dispensary buds, but this coming harvest will be the first to make rosin from my own source.

Kind of an expensive way to press at those prices. I hope your yields are decent. The problem with Rosin making is inconsistent results. Some strains just press better. But moisture of bud alone is another factor in yields. Good luck, slow

What r dispensary prices. Never been.

A lot more than FREE...hahaha. But seriously, I dont go either...so I dont know exact prices? I do know that prices are cheaper for medical patients vs non medical and you know that pressing Rosin is a technique that requires good buds...properly dried. Some strains just dont press well, but vaporize/smoke better. Terp heavy strains usually dont press that great. Lots of facors in Rosin making and yields. Lets say $10 per gram for decent flower? Prob more, but lets go with $10. You can press 3 grams at once if you want. So $30 for 3 gram of flower. 10% yield would be .3grams 20% yield would be .6grams. I highly doubt you wi get higher than 20% yield on $10 gram buds. So you MIGHT if you are lucky. Get 1/2 gram for $30. Not sure what Rosin costs per gram? But I know you can get was or distallate cheaper than $60 per gram. Plus you dont need to press anything yourself. Like I said earlier, lots of little factors go into Rosin making results and yields vary widely per strain or even the same strain at different humidity. Kudos to those pressing Rosin, solvent free is the way I prefer to use my concetrates. But I will make wax/shatter from high quality trim. I only use buds for Rosin pressing. Some strains are not worth pressing, so dont waste time or material if your yield is not up to par. You can squeeze lemonade out of a dried up lemon. Rosin making can be wasteful if you do not properly dry your material or if it is just one of those low yielding concentrate strains. I always test SMALL amounts. I press a gram and If I can press a decent amount I will re attempt it a few more times. If you get consistently good or consistently bad yields with 1gram, it typically translates to similar yields at larger pressings. Peace, slow

I’ve had my 3-ton Dabpress for 2 years and have probably pressed a half pound of dispensary herb through it 3-5 grams per squish.

Dispensary prices by me for flower are $10-20/gram. Rosin is almost never on the menus here. BHO/CO2 is $50-60/g. (I am medical, rec users pay more). One of the many reasons I decided to grow!!

I keep a running log of all my presses and average first press yield is right at 18%. I’ve gotten as high as 28% and low as 5%.

I press between 180-195F for around 90-180 seconds. I start with a low pressure warm up and slowing increase pressure throughout. Unfortunately I don’t have a pressure gauge on my press, so everything is by feel.

Generally the higher % cannabinoids, the better the yield, but definitely agree some strains just press better than others. I think bud structure plays a part. Some seems to expel the goods easier than others. Proper humidity and technique are important, too.

I have gotten over 30% return on White Crack. I agree, some strsins just press better. Possibly die to bud structure as you say. Density, humidity, terpenes, genetics, ect all play a role...including temps you press at nd pressure. I have 10 Ton press. So my technique and press time is lower. For quality I go 180-190F and 45-60 sec. The amount of material.use can invreade or decrease yields as well. Bigger is not always better. Sometimes bud act like a sponge and soak that Rosin back up. Peace, slow

I just cant catch a break here! All that I want to order is still sold out!! I need to get a few beans from here!!!

What r dispensary prices. Never been.
@Mizzo81 , Current prices of “artisan” bud are $55 per 1/8 oz, or $300 per oz. with no tax for medical. 20 percent tax for recreational . So $66 for an 1/8 in a Rec. Shop! Crazy. Grow your own. This is in Massachusetts, or taxachusetts.

Thanks. I’ve literally never stepped foot in a dispensary. I’ve had product from them not much though. Never been impressed. I guess my buddy was too cheap to get the whatever shelf is the best now lol.
