Indoor RocBudInc genetics Perpetual SIP earthbox grow

If you are asking how to empty reservoir or should you empty a BIG YES to empty ....

To empty just tilt box up and all the water will run out drain hole - I had one box that I did this with when I noticed a foul smell thru the filler tube -

I often smell things to check if all is good - I sniff my pups ears as an example and soil - lots of things, some which we will not discuss here, hehe!
I tried that 1st and make a damn lake in my tent floor! Was able to vacuum it all out with my shop vac! So will hydrogen peroxide hurt the worms if I make up couple gallons and top water the big box while I am waiting to germ next plant? I just don’t want a springtails infestation if I can kill off a good amount! If those mites aren’t hypoaspis that will eat the springtails to keep # down just wanna decrease population enough the worms aren’t annoyed and staying super deep! Still super curious how without any top watering show the big box stayed too moist unless it’s most likely the roots! I inspected stem and although it twists quite a bit from tucking and it standing back up there def is no break on it! Thinking roots from that fish shit stuff going bad is only thing I can think of!

Jim Jones all over again but his was way more dramatic - think over 1,000 followers died after drinking “his kool aid“.

For those interested in knowing where the phase came from “Don’t drink the kool aid”

Mark perhaps you can put some food in a corner and attract the worms and then scoop out - springtails are beneficial in that eat eat dead matter but if you want to control them you’ll need dryer conditions - if you think you are wicking too much water add some fine rocks or sand to your soil mix - my experience is the top when mounded over doesn’t get enough moisture but then my soil mix might be different than yours - what is your soil mix - does it have a pot of peat in it?

Right I’m damn glad I didn’t try siphoning the water! If I got a mouthful I would prob be in same condition as my plant!

It’s sphagnum peat moss from Home Depot with a small amount of coco I mixed in, malibu compost and EWC in main soil mix and then topdressed with oly compost! And if springtails won’t hurt em then I won’t stress but seemed like worms weren’t fond of them! Oh I also mixed some pumice into soil mix so had some drainage if I ever top watered box!

I took my gal out of tent and dumped into a large tray, no mess - a Junior you can move - but the original is a bigger animal- glad you got out of there - think you have a handle now ..... so chock up to experience and move on - the next experiment you will get an A!

Avoid coco for sure in your next batch, it holds moisture very well ...... Next batch try mixing in some cheap potting soil instead of the coco or Black Cow Manure - Black Cow has sand in it and will help drainage ....

also here is a time tested soil recipe you might attempt to follow

and this link is about how to make soil for an Earthbox

I’m thinking it was using that fish shit stuff and it went bad in there! Especially the way leaving in a milk jug for like 24hrs before I dumped the small amount that was left the milk jug looked like it was gonna explode cuz all the walls were puffed out! When I was sucking the water out using the vacuum I could smell that nasty ass fish shit stuff as it went thru the vacuum! Already stinks but this was foul! Does that sound like coulda jacked the roots up if it was drinking that nasty water??
Did you give the Fish Shit to any other plants? If you had a reaction in a jugs using that stuff, my guess is that it is to blame. If you have a foul smelling Rez, then your Roots could have root rot and sitting in the Rez is making it worse. Lack of oxygen will make root rot get worse quikly. I personally would throw the plant out. I would dump the soil out and then look at the roots. Also, less is more. It seems like you are doing a lot to your plants before they are even that large. Sometimes adding too many things too quikly is a bad thing. I try to add things 1 at a time and make Changes 1 item at a time. If you add 3 new things all at once, how can we know what is working optimally? Please dont take this the wrong way, but you are running too many ecperiments...without a baseline. You need a baseline grow or 2. Then you have an accurate idea of what your plants should do. Making tons of changes is hard to do and then diagnose problems ate harder. Dont use "free shit" just because it is free. Do a few Earthbox grows without much added. Test new products on only 1 or 2 plants. If something goes wrong, only thosr plants are effcted. Good luck, slow

Haven’t added multiple things! Only thing it got was topdress of oly with small amount of amendments for the worms and then the fish shit stuff! It was smelling funky as I vacuumed it out the reservoir and yes been giving to dinafem cookies and the juniors without issues! I don’t have the mammothP stuff yet so was using it for extra microbes but guess I’ll just use recharge on big box and this stuff on the dinafem cookies I started using it on since it’s in a bag! Didn’t realize it would end up going bad in the res but guess could turn anaerobic since it’s technically liquid tilapia fish shit! Haven’t had issues in juniors but then they are further along in juniors and take up almost whole res daily already cuz takes like 90-95% of a gallon to top it off daily! Does that fish shit stuff sound like it’s the most likely culprit here? I can try to dump soil but remember my tents in my bedroom and that box is heavy full! May have to take some soil out on opposite side plants on to remove some weight (and springtails eggs) and I’ll chunk that, inspect roots, water little hydrogen peroxide from the top and then cover (cover to keep new bugs out) and let dry before putting back in tent with fresh soil added in! In my head sounds like a winning plan but I am a tad stoned if anyone has any ideas! :thanks:

Springtails are not the cause. You will do more harm than good trying to get rid of them. Once you get a ROOT issue, your plant will stp drinking properly. This compounds all other issues. You are adding Fish Shit to your Rez. Have you harvested a plant from a Junior yet? You dont have a baseline grow to compare your experiments too. You are adding things to your water and top dressing and feeding worms too. I cannot say the Fish Shit is to blame for surely. That is my point. You have a lot going on and nothing to compare to. Once your roots get skanky, its hard to fix. I actully remember warning you about adding too much to the Rez when you showed a picture of the Fish Shit . Not knowing what somehing can do to the Rez area, I would top water it in before risking it sitting in my Rez. If plants drink fast, its different than when plants are so small that they dont use much water. Water just sitting in Rez for a week will be at risk of getting skanky. That is why I oersonally prefer 1/2 full.Rez for first 3 weeks of life. You want the rez to dry up within a few days, not stay soaked for a week straight. Roots seek moisture watering to Overflow is not needed for a few weeks. You can have Over Moist Soil and not have Overwatering symptoms above ground...but weak root systems below surface. Eapecially during the firstvfew weeks. I disagree that you cannot overwater in SIPs. I highly suggest trying the 1/2 full Rez during first 3 weeks of life. The plants grow faster up top, but more importantly...the Root Systems are seeking moisture and staying thick and healthy. Overly moist soil can cause many issues, including root rot and slower growth. No need to water to Overflow daily until the plants NEED to be watered daily. Peace, slow

That’s why I asked if anyone knew how much the full size held so I didn’t have to fill it full and then divide by 2 and have bunch of water to dump out! And if I’m getting mycelium on surface under earthbox covers do I need to add any extra like recharge or just plain water only?? Also I can wait couple weeks to add it but instead of mounding up the soil using oly compost on top I paid $20 to local place and got build a flower from him! Figured if adding oly should use kind geared towards flowering! If I should just plain water only the juniors with no recharge or anything then I can handle that! Just wasn’t sure and I hadn’t been doing full doses of that fish shit I just used the jug that had leftovers from dinafem girls and dumped into res but it def stunk when I vacuumed it out! Since these tops are even all limp on this girl now should I just be ready to pull it soon and start fresh?? Thanks y’all
