Bud Wiser UK
This Bud's for you!
Again.....I'm a little lost in soil. How moist?
Stick your finger in ... knuckle-deep. If the soils stick to the tip of your finger when you pull it out, there's moisture in the pot but it's probably time to water. If it's completely covered in wet soil when you pull it out, then leave it alone. I usually go by weight. Lift the bucket when it's just been watered and feel the weight ... you'll know when it needs water as it gets as light as a feather when the soil's dry. The bigger the pot-size, the less frequently you need to water.
Much better to under-water than over-water ... the plant will tell you it needs some liquid by simply wilting. And that's much more easily rectified than drowned roots or root-rot! I'm not a fan of hydro or coco .. soil has so many wonderful benefits that you just can't replicate. Nutrient-buffering the first to come to mind. Micro-environment the second ... if you asked a plant where it would prefer to be grown, I'm sure the answer would be 'free-range' as opposed to 'battery-farmed'. I rest my case.
