So I'm getting a new routine here... what with the CO2 and all... My lights go off at noon each day and I get up at 10-11 time to make breakfast and head off to the potting shed and grow room. I open up the room and begin my routine be it water or food delivery, photos, updates, mixing top dressings, etc.. last but not least getting ready for the next run of CO2...
Weekly I change the liquid and clean out the waste (calcium chloride, water and grey sand) and replenish the pot with new water and more chips. Daily I take off 2 liters of liquid in prep for adding back 2 liters of acid. This happens at 4pm when the lights are coming on and the plants are going from inhaling oxygen to inhaling carbon dioxide. Their somata are wide open and ready to inhale as much as 1700 ppm of CO2 effeciently... I can safely bring the amount higher and I do because this system is a replenishment system and has an efficacy curve... So the higher I can get it, the longer it will go... even still I give it a goose or acid before bedtime... By 11am it will be all spent and ready for the next go at 4pm... Cake!
Here is a picture of my set-up... I used to work in a laboratory so I follow pretty strict procedures...
- A place for everything and everything in its place
- Super good ventilation
- Hazard detection devices
- A bucket of fresh water for accidents and clean up
- Pyrex measuring pitcher
- Acid
- Plastic on floor (if it hits the cement, instant toxic fumes)
- A clear path out of the room in the event of a disaster
I go through about 2 gallons of acid a week @ $10 and a bag of chips a month @ $2.50...
