New Grower Reusing Potting Soil

I'm afraid you're going to have to post some links with those claims for me to even take them seriously. I've been gardening for a long time now and know for a fact my micro herd is sound in my peat and humus based mediums. I don't get yield loss and do just dandy with organic recycled soil, so I don't know what you're doing wrong but if you're running a garden center you might want to figure it out. Most organic growers i know re-use soil, but re-amend it with more peat/coco/humus and all the rest every time. We have proof many times over on this site and others with vibrant micro herds in peat based soil so please do open a thread about it if you wish to contest that point.

I own a botanic Garden have bin in it well over 25 years i am not talking small time here my last grow 4 plant 4 pound harvest i think after years of growing all types of plants and of course selling them for a living one would know i guess if its my lively hood not a hobbie :))

That's what people are talking about when referring to re-using potting soil. I don't have to give a whole lot of time for a micro herd to establish itself because it is already established. I have to give time for the amendments to break down just like I did the first time I mixed the soil. This method is solid and my yields do not suffer because of it. I use guano/kelp instead of bone/blood, slaughterhouse byproducts freak me out.

what i am trying to say miss is for the cost of new soil why bother really i have seen this time n time again in forums about re using soils and 90 percent of the answers are start fresh with new soil for what its worth my thought anyways either way its up to whom ever if they so choose to re use there soils were all here to help from our experiences or down falls from growing anything
Cheers Doc

I understand, but all we know of you is your 12 or so post on the site claiming to run a garden center. People claim all sorts of things on the net but all you've shown me are pictures of pot. Showing me pictures of awesome buds doesn't prove that re-using soil reduces yields. Awesome buds BTW. I want proof that re-using organic soil reduces yields, cause the big boys doing 14 foot outdoor organic plants on other forums reuse soil and get 13 pound monsters with no reduced yield.
Hell, here's a picture of my widow in my organics under wimpy cfls in two square feet.

I'm sure if I had the cash or space to run a couple of 1k lamps I could show you bud just as big and good as yours with recycled soil and organics.

And that's MR Piggy, thank you.

i found massive loss in yield and nothing but plant issues i also own a botanic garden center and advise not to ever reuse soil specially with most salt build ups from nutrients being used to the max specially growing marijuana
i could start a complete new thread on micro biology and how so many growers are being concerned when they really shouldn't be
micro organisms are literally non exsistent in peat based soils being its to acidic

Well, it is a good thing that my results are different, than yours.

reusing soil would be penny wise and dollar foolish. (I'm not calling you foolish, please don't misunderstand) It would have to be amended with all sorts of guanos and things that I just don't see it. now i don't know how your root structure on your plant grows but from my grows there's very little soil left after my grows heres a few pics prior to transplanting into bigger totes as you can see there like day 30 from a 3" clone you see amount of roots and amount of soil :)) there literally no soil left in the 3 gallon pots prior to transplanting into final pots 23.5 gallon

Reuse old soil? Sure, I throw it outside on the veggies and flower beds. Great excuse for buying Pearlie and soil stuffs!
also on note after screening your soil for all its roots etc how much is really there :))

Thnaks for the welcome. :)

Some interesting replies, thanks all. I don't think I am going to reuse thise soil as this is my second full grow using the same mix and it's giving me problems again. In australia we don't have biobuzz products and i don't know would be a similar product. I was just wondering as the price of the soil i am using is kinda pricey and it seems to have year long slow releasing nutes.

Also, generally speaking soils with slow release nutrients are not advised for growing weed. They can interfere with the proper nutrient schedule, sometimes providing too high a level when the plants are young.

As I said above this is my second full grow with this type soil. The first time i used it was late last year when i grew my first auto and i got a nice decent result. But then i grew some non autos spicy white devil and some white russians with some good results but mainly bad. I was over feeding them and the spicy white prosuced bad nute burn. Foul tasting too! I didnt know if it was the soil with the slow releasing nutes plus me adding more or the type of mix i made. I added perlite to the mix but yeah trial and errror.

This time round i am just growing autos, 5 of them (green-o-matics) I am using the same soil mix except i added some cocco lime in the mix and 4 of my girls are doing fine but the fifth one is not looking well. She is flowering but the tips of the leaves have gone all yellow and i am getting spots on some leaves. I am a bit confused and dont know how to fix the problem..i flushed her out 3 days ago but the problem seems to have got worst!

Is it nute burn or nute lock out? The soil i am using is this I have been watering them every 3 days and only once a week with proganics grow (first week) proganics PK (first week of flowering). The sick one is 4 weeks old and has been flowering for the past week. The strain is green-o-matic.

I was going to start a new thread but i am sure there are a thousand similiar threads, do you mind if i ask for advice here?

Will ppst pics soon.

Hey that is what I do with my used soil afterwars. Outside it gets to leach out all its chemicals and you can add a bag of sheep poop to fire it up again.
