I have had great success myself with COBS. I have had 8 plants in 2 gallon pots in my 4x4 and pulled 1.67 grams per watt.. I chopped another plant last night and have one more to chop for my growing season to be done.. I will be selling my Amare most likely and rebuilding my cob frame and running just the cob.. I have talked with a few others that use the Amare and it is a great light but it needs a dimmer... it is too powerful in my opinion.. I want to open it up so bad to see if it can be dimmed manually but I will just run my citizen cobs that I have just sitting here next season

You can turn off the supplemental 5w to reduce it by ~168w or more than 1/3 the total wattage. This offer the flexibility to reduce the intensity and wattage accordingly. New models will include dimmers in the near future.

There are cheaper versions but a meanwell hlg-120-1050 will last 20 years and will run 2 cobs. I run meanwell in the autocob and have dissected every inch of multiple drivers checking them out further. I am impressed with their quality.

Now I bought a cheap light about a year ago just to open that up and see what it was about. eBay 60w for like 35 bucks. The driver was shoved in the frame and was wrapped in heatshrink tubing lol. That's a mini bic too. I wonder if they heated it up before inserting it into the light or to save time they shove it in cold and let it heat itself up. View attachment 741560

I do the same thing with my Amare in warmer months. It's a life saver.

Is the driver in there dimable manually? Is it a meanweel or another brand?
