Red Spider Mites

I sure never saw any here in Canada. Sounds like your from London by your writing. My son is from London and you both write very similarly escept he ends his sentences with a question. Kind of like if ya got a problem mate I can sort it for ya can't I now.

Hi Nelson, http://www.harrodhorticultural.com, gives some good general advice with regards to bio controls for, spider mites, slugs etc.
I don't know whether they would deliver to you but bio control is big business so I would imagine there will be someone over there in the business.

Hope this is useful.

When it comes to fearing spider mites it is number 1 on my list of growing problems I fear the most. I still fear they will return with the hot weather.

In my greenhouse I also use a bug bomb, it's basically a sulphur candle, unfortunately it kills everything, totally none specific, so I only use it if I've had a particularly bad outbreak, almost always RSM but sometimes scale insects as well. Might be worth a try.

That sounds like it may really be useful. I haven't seen this product in Canada either. Any of you seen it around? Well send me some info on it and I will hunt it down over here. I can keep it in case the borg return as Wiz would say.

This is the sort of thing, also had a look on Amazon and they've got a stack of sulphur candles and similar stuff, that was Amazon.co.uk though.

If you do need to use one, clear everything living that you want to keep out of your grow room (including yourself!) 'cause they can be a bit vicious.

Does that include my wife who stole my seed hatching heating pad for her stinking peppers. Grrrrrrrrr.

Just treating the tops of the plants is not going to win you the war. Neem oil products typically just talk about spraying the tops and bottoms of the plants. Thats where the problem is that they dig down about 2 inches to lay their eggs. THe think the lifecycle for eggs to flies is like2-3 weeks. Now you can get a product like azamaz what gives you intructions on spraying the leaves and then treating the soil and that you need to do it every 2 weeks for awhile to make sure they stay gone. After that if you replace the top few inches with perlite or sand in your pots the mites wont live in those and it should deal with the issue long term. I use azamax myself and do the every 2 weeks thing and it seems to deal with them pretty good.

You can also put a piece of potatoe on top of the soil and they will lay their eggs there so every few days just throw it away to kill any eggs or larva that might hatch and replace with a fresh piece.
