Real Science vs Bro Science: Ohhh some of you are NOT going to like this!

lovely discussion. I agree. Lower power longer hrs. High power 24/0 is tough on these babies. In the areas of our planet that get 24/0 sun, well almost, it’s not as intense/ much lower angle. @derek420colorado has a different situation going probably why he sees 24/0 being a benefit he doesn’t pay for the first 12 hrs lol. After all my years for autos I’ve wound up 19/5 lol was supposed to be 18/6 but setting timer after a few beers led me to 19/5 and I find I see the benefit of an extra hr of light over the 18/6 and the benefit of an extra of dark over the 20/4 lmao so basically that’s my reasoning for leaving it at 19/5 and it’s just easier to leave it. I do notice more stink with the couple hrs of dark. Lights out stank hits hard never noticed it with 24/0 that could be a benefit for folks looking for discrepancy. It’s been a while since I ran 24/0 and won’t again because with the savings I was able to run a second smaller tent lol but more plants outweighed less with longer hrs by a lot. For those of us who can’t get out under the sun.

Oh for sure! My sunlight changes so much it’s hard to say. On my experiments I will construct an indoor space so I can isolate the sun variable.

I think u will see 24hrs intense led lighting is harder. I’m about making it easier lol. Perhaps if there was a gradual increase and decrease like a plant living in nature with close to 24hrs of sun.

I really wish I had the space to do real science. Yes all of my observations are just Bro Science but that does not immediately void what I see.

Yes in my Bro Science test I grew 6 FastBuds Green Crack autos all from the same purchase of seeds in each grow. Yes I understand phenos and there was variation in the genetics. The thing is the difference in quality (better flavor and buzz) extended to all six plants. That is not a coincidence.

I have to ask what improved qualities do you perceive in 24/0 and is it worth the additional inputs of energy? I am just asking for your observations here.

And around here a lot of people will say "the best way to grow is what works for you."
Science sometimes throw out these huge numbers but in reality the difference is tiny For me, I'm just not willing to risk pissin off the landlord with 24/0
Now about those who claim a great difference if they talk to the girls, play classical music---course then the argument becomes is classical or head bangin better

I always played Jazz when I worked in the truck garden. I don't know if the plants liked it but I did :cools:.

Has anyone looked into what effects if any having no dark time on microbes in soil. I have heard about them needing dark time for respiration but it makes no sense to me as they mostly cannot stand light anyway.
Maybe it's to do with plants respiration periods and the way they produce exudates etc for the microbes? I would think it's void in a sterile hydroponic system?

This could easily be a good reason!

It might be possible it would affect certain microbes that live on the surface, but I rather doubt it as I suspect certain types live at certain levels in the soil. Also, populations of soil life probably bloom and dies of on a regular basis, rather than maintaining a steady, level population.

I'm sure that's the case with top living bugs, but he made a valid point about the interchange between the roots and microbes. Is that exchange a constant or is it cyclical based on what what the plant experiences?

Good question! It's beyond the current scope of my knowledge. Maybe someone can come up with some information on this.
