Outdoor R Wayne's First Outdoor Grow in SoCal

Weekly Update: Day 43 for the first 3 three and day 25 for the grow dot girls. They are all still stretching except the CBD Critical XXL (not an xxl pheno i guess). It has stayed pretty small in general. The Northern Lights is still growing and just starting to put pistils out on all its bud sites. I am also seeing this interesting mutation where each bud site is putting out 2 more bud sites. So three bud sites on one, Ive never seen this before. I tried to get a decent picture, but it always seems hard getting specific parts of the plant. The Northern Lights also seems more finicky than the rest. It has been the plant most of the pests have been attracted to.

Lets talk about IPM, I didnt have much of a game plan starting out. Thats probably not the best way to go about growing and I dont suggest it. But in my previous post I talked about using the Bee Safe spray. That seemed to eliminate the white flys that had been all over the plants. Now I have started a essential oil/castile soap regimen. I sprayed all the plants last Saturday and again on Tuesday with a mixture of 24oz distilled water/1 tsp Dr Bronners soap/20 drops of rosemary oil. I will continue this regimen every Tuesday and Saturday, but I will be switching the essential oil everyweek. I have rosemary, lavender, eucalyptus, peppermint and neem if bugs get out of hand.

I water by hefting the pots. I have been experimenting with these plants. I dont pH the water, I dont leave it out for 24 hours to let the chlorine evaporate. I did buy a cheap $25 garden hose filter that is supposed to remove some chlorine. Hopefully that is helping. All I do is let the cold water out before I start filling the sprayer BAS uses. Nice 3.5gal metal sprayer. What I have been adding to the water is Stout MSA silica for every watering, Recharge every Saturday, and fish fertilizer every 3 weeks. I will probably stop using the fish fert soon.

I top dressed the CBD Critical last Saturday as well, same as the Northern Lights. I will top dress the Top Gun this Saturday.

The grow dot girls all seem to be growing out of their N toxicity. That dark green sheen on the leaves is disappearing and they are all growing pretty well and stretching. They have all popped pistils as well. Hopefully they will keep stretching and produce some decent buds.

Side Note: The plants have been moved into the hoop house, but the hoop house gets limited sun. Like 5 hours a day. There is a large tree on the south side that blocks the sun in the morning. So they arent getting the amount of sun I would like, but with everything going on in this house it is what it is.

To the Pictures (I will also be using thumbnails from now on to shorten the length of the posts):

Weekly Update: Day 50 for the first 3 and day 32 for the grow dot girls. It has been an interesting week. I decided to move 2 of the grow dot girls (black strap & CBD 1:1) to the small green house on the side of the house since it gets way more sun. But I think the two plants werent ready for it. The top leaves got these whiteish dots on the side and started to curl. So I put them back in the hoop house and that is where they will stay. The BS seems to be pushing through it just fine but the CBD is not happy with my choices.

We also got a lot of rain, by LA standards, this week and everything is still damp. There seems to be an infestation of termites, they are flying EVERYWHERE now. Hopefully they wont affect the crops. I havent been paying as much attention to my outdoor plants and the 50 day CBD Critical xxl has a pretty back fungus gnat infestation. All 3 sticky traps are covered in gnats. I like to use mosquito bits (BTi) along with yellow sticky traps. I gave them their first dose of mosquito bit tea two days ago and will give them more in a week. Ive also added mosquito bits to the top soil as well.

The rest of the plants are cruising, the Top gun got her top dress today (a little late). I sprayed them with my Eucalyptus oil mix Saturday and will spray them again next Saturday. The NL always seems to be droopy but is still green and still growing. Might be my tallest plant so far.

On to the pictures (screw the thumbnails, I dont like it):

Awesome grow man. My blackstrap that started purple right out of the gates this year was an anvil leaner. Straight up funky, stinky terps and she really did end up being so purple, she was black!! Good grow my friend. I'll be following along.

Also side note, my mosquito bits top dressing molded in my indoor grow.. careful on the airflow with top dressing those. Outdoors might not be that much of a prob, just wanted to let you know. Nice work.

Glad to have you tagging along and thanks for the info about the bits. I'll have to keep an eye on them, I probably used a bit more than I needed too so maybe I'll scoop some out.

Weekly Update: Day 58 for the first 3 and day 40 for the Grow Dot Girls. The Northern Lights is a monster compared to everyone else but also the most finicky. She was quite thirsty, the pot felt decently heavy, but when I tested the soil with my finger the first 4 inches were bone dry. Dealing with fungus gnats in the hoop house so Im leaning towards the dryer side rn. So she got a good watering with some enzymes and quijalla. I have also been taking her out of the hoop house in the mornings to get her more sun. But even after a good watering she is still droopy. Neglect on my part. The Top gun is the happiest girl, still growing and buds are looking great. I also moved the CBD Critical to a spot where she gets more sun since she is furthest along and her buds are starting to form. I forgot to take pics so I will have to update them later.

Besides the two grow dot girls that got too much sun (crispy leaves) they all are growing and look happy. Not much to report though.

Weekly update: Day 64 for the first 3 and day 46 for the grow dot girls. So the hoop house just doesnt get enough sun light throughout the day. So I moved all the plants except the CBD 1:1 (not enough room) to the south side of the house. The plants already seem happier and its only been a couple days. The northern lights has been drinking water pretty quickly and I given her a couple deep waterings this week. Shes still quite droopy and I feel like thats how she gonna stay till the end. All the grow dot girls are happier, though I had to use a shade cloth on the side of the house so the leaves wouldnt burn like they did last time. Might try to slowly introduce them to full sun like I did with the seedlings. I havent been spraying them with any IPM spray the last couple weeks since the top gun is in full flower. Thats all for this week.

Day 86 for the Top Gun and Northern Lights. It has gotten pretty cold here at night over the last month. We have gotten some frost, but they have been in the hoop house so no damage to the plants. The Top guns leaves have turned completely purple, it is very pretty. So pretty I almost dont want to cut it down...well no plant will be that pretty :haha: I checked the trichomes and I think I will give her another week or two. Get some more ambers.
The Northern Lights is also stacking as well, still droopy but still growing. Quite tall now, shes kind of a pain to move in and out of the hoop house cause shes so tall.
I will post an update of the other plants soon.

Harvest day & Bud washing
Harvest Day: Day 96 for the Northern Lights and Top gun. I would have preferred to leave them to possibly bulk up more, especially the NL. But we are going to be getting a week of rain with an average humidity of 85% starting in 2 days. So I decided to chop down both plants. Dang are they colorful, my wife asked to press and keep a couple of leaves from both cause they turned so pretty.

I will have to do a separate post for each plant, I have too many pictures

Top Gun & Bud washing:
This plant was a breeze, easy growing with very little problems, I would love to give this another go when we have more sunlight. But I still feel blessed to even be able to produce any bud outside during the fall and winter months. I also decided to give bud washing a try. 3 bucket system each bucket with about 2 gallons of water. The first bucket was tap water with 1/4 cup lemon juice and 1/4 cup baking soda. The second and third buckets were cold R/O water. Trimmed off branches and fan leaves, then agitated them in each bucket for 30 seconds starting with the lemon/soda bucket. Then shook them out as best I could and hung them in the shade on a fence. I will leave them there for the next 3 hours, outside is sunny, mid 70s, and humidity is in the 20s. After they hang dry for a few hours I will trim them like I usually do and brown bag them to dry as normal.

My 3 buckets, the white one is the Lemon/Soda, last bucket is in the back to the left of the door

Love the looks of this plant, wish she got more sun throughout her life
