Portable AC venting question

For reference, I plan on purchasing a “Toshiba Portable AC 10,000 BTU”, which I found on Facebook for a relatively cheap price.

So, basically, my plan is to place this unit outside of my basement drying tent(2x2x36) and then vent it with 4 inch ducting inside it. I really only need to lower the temperature 5-10 degrees, depending on the outside temp that is.

The only issue is that I don’t have windows in my basement to place my exhaust ventilation duct through. I figure that since my basement is pretty large, and the air isn’t what I would consider stagnant by any means, and since the ac would be on a fairly low power setting, then the excess heat generated by the ac would be negligible and wouldn’t affect the cold air in the tent.

Is this correct?

Venting the heat to the surrounding room will just heat that up as much as you cool the tent; hotter air will make it harder to cool it; also may add humidity. Depending where you are, if it's generally cold/cooler enough in the basement (if there is some other cooling/heat removal going on), you may not have a problem.

I was faced with a similar venting issue and didn’t even have an AC but a very cold garage in the winter. Thinking that venting the hot air to keep the inside temp below 80f because of the CMH and Cob btus just heating my garage up to the point that when the weather warmed in March/April to the 60’s+ then in-line fan just ran all the time at 30-50% power. When going to the end of the flower cycle end of April/may determined running during the summer would be impossible without an AC and punching a hole to the outside to vent the heat out of my garage area. What you’re thinking will be problematic at best.

In my experience no those units exhaust a lot of heat raising the temp in your lung room/basement.. It will just cause a losing battle I tried it maybe it will work for you but mine exhausts really hot air

I agree that the units exhaust a lot of heat but I also believe you’ll never know til you try. Necessity is the mother of invention so my approach would be to set it up, see what happens, and trust your McGyver instincts to figure out how you can make it work from there.

It's simple heat transfer and fluid flow basics, Ya have to vent it outside.

Agreed. I think it’s easier to find a solution if you put the problem in front of you. Once assembled it may be easier to decide to cut a hole somewhere. It would be for me anyways.
