Hey guys! I'm in the middle of building a custom cabinet. The strain I'm going to be growing has been reported as smelly, so I want to make sure I have things covered this time around. Last time ONA came no where close to cutting it. In fact it made pretty much no difference what so ever when my white widows were flowering. This time, my custom cabinet has proper passive intakes and proper exhaust. The cabinet is being made air and light proof. Thus, only air being sucked through the by the fan gets into the box, only only air from the box gets exhausted. Exactly the way it should be.

Sounds like I've got it covered. Ok, but I just want to make sure this time!

I've got this scrubber:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/120807434079?_trksid=p2059210.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT

And I've matched it with this fan:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/350704721661?_trksid=p2059210.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT

The fan is listed as 230 CFM. However, that rating is listed as "Open Flow" CFM with an "In-System" CFM of 125. What is the rating I should be going by here to be accurate in my calculations of air flow and in matching to a carbon filter?

This is in my basement, and I'm planning on venting the exhaust about 16" through ducting, where it goes into the basement ceiling space. It's about 18" high in there and its all insulated and blocked off into it's own little 6'X6' space up there. Hard to explain but I think its a perfect exhaust place.

Cabinet is 18.5"L X 45.5"W X 53.5" tall (So around 6 cu/ft I think?)
4" Exhaust
2x4" intakes (with screens, thus reducing airflow)

Do you think..A) My fan/scrubber combination will work well together? B) Will it be sufficient for air circulation? C) Will it take care of my odor without additional odor products? D) Should I make any adjustments?

Thanks for any input and advice! AFN Rocks!
:peace:

Hello mate, your set up sounds cool!

The scrubber you've listed I don't recognize the brand, it may be US specific but the best brands I am aware of are a bit more expensive and either made by Phresh or Rhino for example, Phresh 4" fan about $100. I've bought cheap before they really don't work well enough to hide the smell for long but fingers crossed that one is good!

The fan in my grow is only set to half speed so be aware that a no-hum fan controller is around $120. The fan you have chosen isn't really up to the job of pulling air through your scrubber but if budget is a problem you might find it is enough at full speed to equal the RVK type equivalent $77.95 at half speed so you won't need an expensive controller. Downside is it won't last as long and may be noisy as it is designed for use without the resistance caused by a scrubber.

Sorry for blasting your choices bro, I've tried and failed with similar fan/scrubbers in a similar setup. Other than that it all sounds good and you'll have ample circulation.

What lights are you using btw?

A 4inch scrubber your size needs 250 cfm so you are close make sure your intake is less so you get lots of air movement every hour passive intake with forced intake would work good. Your scrubber looks decent should work pretty good the specs are good HTG is a big vendor. I hope the best for you I go over board just make sure air is no problem I have a 5x5 tent with a 8 inch scrubber and inline fan and a 6 inch inline fan for intake with some passive intake too lots of air movement allot less chance of high humidity and less chance of bud rot

Bro thanks for all of the input! I am taking a look at alternates as I write this.

The problem with fans is not budget but rather vertical space it consumes in my cabinet. I have 53.5" height, and I have a DIY hood with roughly 400W of CFL. The hood consumes 6" of vertical height and the full width of the box. Anything larger that the straight tube like one I have takes more vertical space that I don't really want to compromise. I want to also keep the fan inside the box for noise and security, but more importantly I will not be able to have the fan outside due to space requirements in the basement.

If you can recommend me a good 4" fan with minimal mounting, I would definitely consider it!

Thanks for the information and input man! Give me some things to ponder, and I sure am glad to hear that my scrubber sounds decent! If I have to get a new fan I am certainly not against it.

I could probably go a little bigger, but only a little. I only have about 7" x 7" space to fit a fan, but I can't go bigger than a 5" duct.

Your set up should work bro just lacking a few cfms but not much you still are pushing 220 cfms with that fan on exhaust. Just have lots of intake so your fan will not labor under use keep a eye on your relative humidity too if it stays high you are not moving enough air imo

Ah, now I understand the fan choice. The only one I know of that is near the same height is the S&P TD-100 Silent, it's bloody expensive but on the upside it's wired for two speeds and can maintain the pressure you'll need even with a scrubber attached.

Did i read this right? Are u letting the air vent into the ground floor joist / insulation? space.

Dude thanks for coming through on that! I am a bit confused now though because the highest CFM rating of the TD100XS is 143CFM (or 203 if I go to the 5" ducting). When I am comparing fans, they all have very similar CFM ratings. How am I to know what will work for pulling through a scrubber whilst having enough airflow?

Well, it's what I'm thinking, its not a done deal yet if you think I shouldn't for some reason.

Already there just add the hot air and wait 6 months ;)

For sure bro. I'm going to start with the one that I have, but if (when?) it fails I'll be upgrading if I can find a good one to go with that fits :)
