Gonna run my first autos! Lots of photo experience, but lights on over 12 hours in flower is different for me. Curious what I'd be shooting for regarding PPFD at the canopy if I ran 24/0 or 20/4. Am I aiming for a certain DLI?

Strain is fastbuds LSD 25.

Tight Lines!!

It's more important you determine how much light they can handle. That's going to be specific to your light and environment. 18/6 might be fine to start with.

I've read over and over that anything over 18/6 is a waste of electricity. I recently saw somewhere that some people do photos and autos together on a 12/12 cycle from the start and have had decent results. I'm going to try that my next grow since I have several photo seeds that otherwise I'd never use

I ran my girl 20/4 and she turned out great....Mind you her genetics were effed from the get go so had to put her into 12/12 to get her to start flowering and gradually pulled her back over a couple weeks. As for the waste of electricity @Raggedy Man mentioned, if you run COBs like I do the costs are negligible...Cheers!

@Raggedy Man that may be true at very high light levels, but if you aren't able to meet you're DLI at 18/6, in curious if you can just extend. Here's a screenshot from fast buds...

Mephisto recommends 24/0 on their grow tips, but at what ppfd?

Does anyone know what the optimal DLI is for autos in general, let alone a given strain?

Without knowing the DLI numbers, any discussion about ppfd is poking a wet finger in the air.

Why not ask the breeder what numbers they recommend, in this case Fastbuds?

Mephisto probably doesn't know, but why not ask them directly, they are on here. The also likely don't have the resources to find out, that involves thousands of plants, in successive runs, high tech gear in a controlled environment and lab grade data collection, management and evaluation.

Doesn't help that auto's can't be cloned and pheno type comes into play too!

I have never found a suggested DLI for autos but that isn't a static number considering strains, different lights, and environments. Breeder time isn't accurate because of the same reasons.

I've done some DLI testing with autos, Mandalorin genetics mostly. From what I have seen with our lights (scynce LED) when it comes to DLI autos kind of toss it out the window. It really depends on the blend of genetics. Some of the genes in these plants are set to run 24 hours a day so they will take that depending on spectrum. What the data is pointing to is the intensity matters somewhat 20 hours a day with a 4 hour sunrise(heavy blues) /sunset (heavy reds) seems to be optimal for plant health and yield.

Yep, so it is, I've also looked in vain for any auto DLI. For what it's worth, and with the trouble of measuring an average DLI at canopy height with an Apogee MQ-500, about 40 mol per cycle given over 20 hours of lights on has worked fine. I've switched to growing photos for awhile, so never got around playing with increasing intensity and reducing the on time.

Nice link, good summary.
