Hi guys 'n' gals, i'm having a little run of bad luck at the mo, lost most of a purple kush to bud rot a few weeks back and now i've got a jar with 2oz of green poison auto in it with possible powdery mildew on the buds. The buds had been in the jar for a couple of weeks, dried in a bag for 5 days first then jarred with an rh meter and burped as per usual routine to hit 62%. As i reached into the jar yesterday a little white cloud emerged and some of the buds had what looked like dust on them! The buds don't look too bad to the naked eye but on closer inspection with a magnifier shows small amounts of what look like webs, and the trichomes have like a white ball on the end of them? The buds are dry and theres no sign of the dreaded bud rot (no grey/brown mush), I'm gutted because i'm taking a break from growing for a couple of months and this jar was a substantial part of my stash for this period, the weed was also top quality in terms of taste, aroma and high so to lose the whole lot will be a right downer! Would a water cure rid the buds of the mildew or would the fact that theres a form of mold there already just be made worse in the water and turn everything to mush?

Water curing should fix the powder mildew and save your meds but unfortunately you will lose most of the smell and taste. I would definitely give it a shot if I were you though cause otherwise your bud should not be smoked its a serious health risk. Really sorry to hear about this man I hope the water cure can save your meds

Hey Ska'd

Sorry to hear of your troubles mate :(

The jagged white spider webs when you look through a scope are indeed mold. On an early grow i did a bad job drying my harvest and after 3 months of smoking it my friend (with a scope) pointed out the mould to me. (i have my own scope now)

The effects of smoking mouldy weed was a nasty cough in the morning. I'm still alive after smoking a couple of ounces of it - but wouldn't recommend!
Can't comment on water curing as i've never tired it. Maybe making hash out of it (while not preferable) might be an idea. I would *imagine* that high % alcohol or butane would kick the mould butt (but don't know for sure!)

Yes, a water cure will be an effective way to clean it up. I do a water on everything I use to make oil. I go right from the water cure directly to the crock pot. I've never tried drying and smoking anything that I've water cured, but as mentioned, the smell and taste will be gone.

:group:cheers folks, yeah i'm prepared to lose the taste and aroma if it means i can salvage something as i promised the good lady i wouldn't start my next grow untill end of september, so it's going to be early december before a fresh harvest ! I've built up a bit of a stash to see me through but 2oz's is alot for me to lose! I've now got 3 grows under my belt and have been pleased that i've improved yield with each grow but i've been given a real lesson with this last harvest in terms of drying & curing. By my own admission it's been a bit of a kick up the backside as despite my inexperience i was probably getting a bit sloppy and over confident due to the increase in yield and quality this time round, i really let my guard down in terms of not paying enough attention to changes in the U.K. weather, humidity levels, & where i was storing the jars etc. Well i've found out the hard way but it's all part of the learning process and i guess i'll be better prepared next time round!
