@pop22 I was wondering if I make oil for canna caps from a particular strain will those genetics come thru in the oil? Ripley's oil will be a Ripley's buzz and likewise for Sour Stomper or Toof Decay will make a indica effect? I want to make my own edibles, and was hoping that would be the case to some extent. The only thing I've made are firecrackers, well some canna butter long ago that didn't turn out that great. I'm new to all of this.
Yes, the characteristics of the strain will appear in edibles made with that strain.
You should strongly consider not straining the oil that goes into the cannacaps, because about half the original medicine is lost to the straining process with oils/butter. (see the HIgh Times Ultimate Cannabutter Experiment)
The herb/oil mixture will be difficult to get into the caps, so it's easier if you grind the herb to powder after decarb.
Almost exactly as effective as unstrained cannacaps is baking with ground, decarbed herb.
Just decarb (240 F for 40 min works well), grind to powder, and mix into the oil of any recipe, or just mix with nut butter/nutella. Try not to bake too long, because over-decarb will eventually happen.
Your firecrackers, like anything made with properly decarbed whole herb, probably had close to maximum potency for a given amount of starting herb.
If you make strained oil, it will be half as strong as those firecrackers, gram for gram of original herb.
You can efficiently make cannacaps that contain little herb matter if you first make 190 proof alcohol tincture, evaporate away the alcohol, and add oil to the remaining FECO.
