Indoor Phineas DTOM’s Fabuous Skunky Adventure

Update:

The Auto Ultimate seems to be doing well although I wish she’d get a little bigger. She’s 31 days old here and I’m not sure how much more veg growth to expect out of her. I’m still new to autos so I’m a little lost. Lol. I was kinda hoping to get her (and her sister) to 3’ tall. Ah well, we’ll see.

Here’s the Dinafem XXL Cheese. She’s about 20% bigger than the Auto Ultimate. I had a disappointing experience with this strain outside but we had some downright horrible conditions/weather so I wanted to give her another shot. So far, everything indicates she’ll do good. The real question, for me, is the flower - my outside plant just started putting on flower and quickly began foxtailibg before pretty much stunting out. I still have her going outside and she drinks water but doesn’t seem to pack on any more buds or leaves - she just sits there like a huge disappointment. Lol! Anyway, here she is:

I harvested the top of ILGM Amnesia Haze because she started foxtailing; but she was ready to go anyway. I think I waited a bit long with her. I had some amber and all the pistils were orange but I was hoping for more resin and then I gave her a little Bud Explosion and Mammoth P and moved her closer to the light (about 16”) and she started foxtailing. I’m guessing I shouldn’t have given her the nutes?

The DO Auto Mazar is about ready. I could probably cut her any day but I keep hoping she’ll plump her buds a bit more. I’ve got some amber trichs and mostly orange pistils. Do you think I ought to just go with what I have or wait it out some? Sorry I don’t have a pic. I’ll try to get some today.

Thanks for looking!

Update:

My experiment at topping auto’s isn’t turning out as well as I’d hoped. I’m not sure what I did wrong but they didn’t grow very big. The Dinafem XXL Cheese I grew outdoors got more than twice this size and I expected the auto “Ultimate” to be a bit more Ultimate than 12” long branches. Lol. No doubt I did, or didn’t, do something that kept them from getting bigger but I’m not sure what that is. I never had ANY problems or deficiencies with either of them and they took off growing after I topped at the 4th node on day 20, under @autobeast instruction. I was a little worried at the time because he had me wait until day 20 because they were “both kinda small.” Maybe he’ll see this and be able to give me some suggestions why they weren’t./aren’t bigger?

I don’t know if I’ve ever had any plants that were bigger than these were on day 20 and the 2 CBD strains below hit day 21 today and are the same size as the topped 2 autos in question. I’ve seen a few other folks that managed to get to the 4th node by day 15 but I’m always in awe; and don’t have a clue how they manage it. I build a pretty decent soil and always put a core of low/no nute media in the center for the seedling to germinate in. I’m sure open to suggestion!

Seems like after topping growth spurted and I was able to start LSTing the side branches outward but right about day 30 they sprouted the first pistils and growth quit shortly after. I specifically chose these 2 strains to try topping because they’re known to be large in size and large yielders; and I figured they’d have a longer veg cycle. Is it possible that topping or the LST induced early flowering and an end to veg?

Here’s both of them in their 5 gallon bags and you can see how much smaller the DP is and how small they both are, in general.

Here’s a DP Compassionate Lime and a CBD Crew Auto OG Kush CBD at day 21. The DP was topped at the 4th node on day 21, just like I did with the two autos above. I left the DP to grow naturally. I may LST her slightly, down the road, but I’m a little nervous about the topping autos thing now. Lol! I think I need to keep playing with it but can’t totally give up yield until I figure out what I’m doing wrong. HELP @autobeast !!!

i finally got some Earth Juice Microblast (@Waira digested it) in and had time to foliar feed it today. Looking forward to see if it’ll fix up the ongoing deficiency issue. I wasn’t able to get the Optic Transport yet but I will as soon as I can afford it.

Here’s the tag you asked for @Yeatster Come have a look!

Autos are weird man. I'm into my first grow in 7 or 8 years and managed to hit that "perfect" 5 nodes 15 days deal on 6 out of 7 ladies. The 7th one, we wont talk about that one hahah barely 3 nodes and half the size. Freaking seed was stuck on the seedling leaves and somehow stunted the girl heavily. I've noticed that any little stall or pause period in the pants including emerging from the ground is a bad sign. I've grown 3.5 gram autos and 3oz autos with no lst/hst so who knows. Hot soil/low ph soil seems to be the most common issue for me including this run (cal mag lockout from 5.0ish ph soil) yet somehow they haven't stunted despite a few looking bad imo.

Thanks @trickydicky Still working on it. No new pics right now but I did order an RO system and I’m going to start RO’ing my water. I needed it for drinking water anyway - I’m sick of buying bottled water. Lol. I’m doing something wrong and I’m struggling to figure out what it is. Nutrient deficiency symptoms or stunting or pH fluctuations....it’s always something with this indoor grow. I’ve grown very suspicious of our well water. It’s only moderately hard (6 grains) but has a ppm of 914-1025. 6 grains equates to 107ppm which leaves 800ppm of TDS that’s not calcium and is unknown substances. No telling what that is. So, I’m hoping RO water will help my struggles. We’re next to a big and long-time Ag operation and I guess it’s possible that something has leached into the 250’ deep well. They use water from a acquifer that’s 1200-1500’ down and way to expensive for us to reach.

One of these days I’ll get all this figured out. Lol.

Im a plumber by trade and Ive seen wells destroy piping yet test fairly well (low 6ph). I am aware of what lies below that surface isnt always easily identified hahah but if it eats copper and brass it aint good! I bought a home and assumed the water would be close to the same ph as my last residence but low and behold we have 8.5ph consistently from the town! Sending it anyways hahah id die opening a couple dozen bottles of water every couple days

P.s. Generally wells are sealed to bedrock via a well head (long 6in" wide pipe they hammer into the earth- generally bedrock is less then 40' down and makes an excellent seal) this prevents contaminants from the surface from working there way into your well. Most likely your issue is some sort of mineral deposit leaching into it far below the bedrock via some vein somewhere down there. I know around here there are labs you can send a sample to on the cheap and they will do a complete chemical analysis of it for $50 or so.

Man, if you can give me the name of a lab or two at that price, I’d DEFINITELY send some in for testing. I was “told” by some water softener companies and some friends that it was expensive. Lol. So, I took their word for it. Thanks so much!

We’re on limestone here. Lots of it. The whole region. No matter whether it’s a shallow for our area) well like ours or a deep well into the acquifer, it’s ALL hard. Ours is less hard than what’s common around here. It has a smell to it but it’s not super strong but rotten egg smelling water is common around here; and I’m led to believe that’s due to sulphur in the water? Possibly also bacteria? The water, when I’ve tasted it has a slightly salty flavor, imo, and that makes me think “sodium.” IF that were the case, and the water had a high(er) level of sodium than normal, couldn’t that cause me all sorts of issues as the salts would build up in the water; as if I was using salt based nutes?

I really appreciate the info and the help!

FWIW - wells around here are drilled (just like an oil well) and 6” pipe is inserted behind the drill bit. It’s sealed in place, or ‘cased,’ with concrete.

Ive ran into the smelly eggs water before and theres no solution but aerating your water. It drives people on wells crazy. Basically adding o2 somehow agitates the smell out of it.

Would you mind giving me the name of a lab or two that’ll do that water testing for $50 I’d really like to have it tested.

"Contact your local or state Health and Human Services Department. They will be able to refer you to a certified laboratory in your area. In addition, many communities offer free screenings, called "Test Your Well" events. Get started In your community." Your best bet is going to be staying local and grabbing a local company- call around shouldnt be a hair over $100.
