Phenotypes and Back crossing (BX).

yes, if I follow you right... you reversed female kvs(a) and crossed it to female kvs(b) that made kvs S1...unless these were fem seed...in that case...you have kvs S2, as in self'ed 2....

Now you saved the pollen from the original reversed female... and pollenated the S2 or S3 if it was a fem...now for myself I dont want a 80 or 90% homo plant because a little variation is nice...[SIZE=-1]

take a plant and self it, every generation that you self a plant, it becomes 50% more homozygous. Then you go to 75%, 87.5%, 93.75% etc. More uniform. By the 7th generation you are over 99% homozygous.

great! thats what I was thinking. I got a 100% og kush taste from my plant and want to isolate that so I get it every time. I'm also trying to isolate the single cola pheno but I'm pretty sure I got that down already. this next batch of seeds should be 100% single cola and at least 50% og kush taste.
so I can then cross 2 of those seeds that have the taste I want and increase the percentage in every generation so I can use it for my final breeding project.

:bow:Holy sheyet! Which # post contains the cliffs-notes?:key:

:grat:Got my cliff-notes so I'm slowly educating myself thanks to you Cannabis breeding gods. I'm currently growing WOS Afghan kush X Yumboldt, Auto Northern Lights approaching late flower and Malana Bomb. My objectives are a stock pile of seeds and a Auto having traits of the AK x Yumboldt by crossing it with either the NL or Malana Bomb. From my research a (Auto NL x AK x Yum) eventually will produce a low odor variety (apartment stealth). Then possibly a AK x Malana bomb will give me something more fragrant and spicy. So what are your opinions on this.

@Ganja - I think you will get a lot of variety. Just remember that the more you grow the better your selection will be. Grow out one cross at a time if you don't have a lot of room that way you can pick the traits you want and cross for stability. are you using males and females for breeding or making CS?

Hey Evol all I have is females so my plan was to wait for the NL to produce a few pollen sacks then use that to pollinate the yumbolt. CS will be my next Alternative.

Holy shit is there so much info in this section! I could be here for months learning! I got a quick question though, is the original Lowryder like the herpes of cannabis?
If I took a photo (p1) and breed to a LR, I will have f1s that more than likely will be 100% photo... Now if I take the f1's and than breed then to another f1, ill f2's with 25% chance of auto... Now here is my question if I take the f3 and breed them back to the photo and and save reversed pollen from one of the photos could I use that pollen on that f3's and continue to backcross... Will breeding back into the photo continually eventually bring out the lowryder gene and also increase potency from the continuos back breeding to the photo? As my understanding is the Auto gene is Dom trait so should eventually come out regardless of what its bred to as its in the genes? Does this sound about right?

In autoflowers, backcrossing can be achieved only by cloning the mother, putting the clone in the fridge, or by making some viable seeds, taking all the buds off the mother, putting her in the fridge.

backcrossing is to achieve a kind of reduced number of phenotypes, i.e. genetics all the same as the mother and not her sisters, because it's breeding 1+ generations with the mother.

Hedge ger not trying to sound nitpicky, I'm trying to get this on top of all the rest of the info here... Could you explain the fridge part? I'm only asking bc it sounds like you have a solid point here i just don't think I'm getting it...

you're saying it's only a real backcross if you breed the more to herself, the same exact plant, not siblings... Right?

Yes that's correct. Think of it as a child or grandchild having a baby with its parent or grandparent. Now replace people with seed generations... That is a back cross.
Putting a mother plant in the refrigerator can slow its growth and prolong its life making it possible to backcross with F2s or F3 seeds.
