Hey all. Life has finally provided me with the time to catch up on the site and post one of my current grows. I can't believe how much the site has grown since I was last around!! Awesome stuff!! :smokebuds:

OK... the strain: PGH came from a project that JM and I worked on a while back. We're not 100% sure of the genetics, but here's what we do know: It started with a seed that came in a bag of OG Kush. Turned out to be fem and it was used as a mother for a SOG. In an accompanying SOG in the same chamber was some fem NL5. Upon harvesting one of the batches of OG Kush, we found a bunch of seeds. We named the seeds PGH. I've grown out 20 of these and every single one has been fem. Some of the phenos have been OG Kush-like with very strong limey and minty smells and tastes. Others have appeared somewhat NL5 like in terms of their leaves, bud structure, and the spicey, rubbery smell and taste. Here are pics of two PGH's that I'm currently growing out to use as mothers for a small SOG:

So, it's kind of a mystery. The fact that every PGH seed that I've grown out has been fem makes us think that the OG must have popped a male flower somewhere and pollinated that plant and a couple of nearby plants. That wouldn't explain the phenos that act NL5'ish though....

Anywho.... JM and I decided to try and run PGH into a fully auto strain. JM worked his magic and polly'd a couple of PGH's with some ALF#3 and I'm growing out the resulting beans to test. Out of 10 beans started, 9 popped. 6 fems and 3 males. No autoflowering traits this time around, but DEFINITELY a noticeable amount of increased vigor with the ALF#3 added.

Collected pollen the other day off of all three males. Here are pics of the two males I will be using as sperm donors for this round when the time comes (4 weeks after going into 12/12):

And here are pics of the 6 ladies (4 weeks after going into 12/12). I decided to pair up two of them into one pot and LST the bejeezus out of them. Also, thanks to FullDuplex for the tip on allowing for more root drop!

More updates to come soon. Cheers!:smokeit:

Thanks gents! I screwed the pooch pretty bad with them about 2 weeks after I put them in 12/12. I had a bin that I left outside prior to some heavy rains that came and I collected rain water to put in my bubbling setup. Well, I burned my usual ceremonial before I opened the chamber to water... that coupled with the fact that I've been using bubbled tap water for the past year... completely forgot that it was rain water and didn't pH or adjust prior to watering everything. DOH!!!! They took a bad burn... pH dropped to a range of 5.0 - 5.2. Luckily, I caught it early the next day and flushed everything out with Sledgehammer. I've been nursing them back to some form of health ever since.

Over the past couple days, I've had a bout with a Mg deficiency that came on with the quickness in the two plants that I have LST'd in the same pot. Also noticed it starting to creep in the others. One thing I've noticed with the PGH strain is that they get crazy Mg hungry when they start to bud hard. Should have been a little more in tune to that and stayed ahead of it a little better. Oh well... live and learn... Hit everything with some molasses in my watering three nights ago, as well as Epsom foliar sprays each of the last two days. Seems to finally be taking hold. Gonna water with Epsom and Root Drench tonight.

Here are some pics from last night:

Many thanks to you guys for being such good teachers!!

Here are a couple pics from the last PGH run I did for an idea of what it produces:

Pic update

Over the past few days, I noticed the sudden onset of some green roots with what appears to be some type of algae growing on the inside of some of my see-through cups. The more algae present, the worse the affected plants look. Here's a pic of the worst one:

And the plants it belongs to:

I think I've narrowed it down to the fact that the roots have been exposed to the intense light beaming from above. Before it wasn't a problem when I still had the males in there with them because it was so packed, not too much light was reaching the cups. Once I removed the males, a lot more light was able to penetrate down in and the LST'd pair were the first ones to get the third tier of soil added, so they were exposed the longest. The next two to get the third tier aren't in quite as bad of shape as the LST'd pair and their roots weren't exposed for quite as long. Am I way off base here? Could something else be causing the algae? BTW, I like to let the girls get pretty dry between waterings as I've found they like a nice steep sine curve when it comes to moisture levels... so I don't think that it could be from over-watering.

To try and stop it, I wrapped the exposed parts of the clear plastic cups in some Guerilla tape to keep them shaded. Is there something else I should do or possibly water with to try and take care of the algae? Or will starving it for light kill it off?

Thanks in advance for any help and tips anyone can give :smokebuds:

Man that sux I don't know how to take care of the algae but it is definitely caused from light, root's should never be exposed to light it will cause algae.

Right on... definitely an oversight on my part. Hopefully the tape will be enough to take care of it. Your avatar is outstanding, BTW. BATS!!!!
