[OPINIONS WANTED] How do YOU determine harvest window?

Towards the end of the plants life you will see a general yellowing from the tips to the base of the leaf. Sometimes even coloring of the leaves. It's uniform on the leaf not in random spots. And in my experience it starts at the top and goes down. It's a bit different from a deficiency or lockouts. Here's a perfect example a recent fade out of my cream mandarineView attachment 1477632

What do you mean die back on the fans?
When I see something like this = the current Mephisto Walter White in my tent = I know that it’s about time to harvest.

Best way I can describe it is it looks like the plant is sucking all the life out of the leaves in an effort to build buds.

To my knowledge that is what is happening…catabolism of chlorophyll (the green disappears) and other molecules in the leaves as a last ditch effort to obtain nutrients for flower production.


As a beginner i’m going by trichomes…about 5-10% amber developing and I start planning on letting the medium dry out, then chop chop time. My other indicator is once budding has slowed, not many new pistils being kicked out (which goes in line with the plant drinking less). Great info on this thread for me to think about though! :thumbsup:

I start checking trichomes when the plant starts looking dull. I’ll take a mix of ripeness.
If you have had all amber in an auto strain, you have more patience than I do. :eek1: I have taken quite a few to far older than breeder specs (including Mephisto), and doubt that I have ever seen as much as 30%. I'd love to get more sleep effects, but worry about leaving them too long.
Have u tried g14 from fastbuds. They r very stable and the entire plant will go amber. I’ve grown 5 and they were all basically identical.

Good plan. I only go mostly by the fans now because I’ve had plants never go amber, and I’ve had a few show amber way too early.

On average the fan fade correlates with the amber. And I can sorta tell by looking at the plant how far off, or soon, I will harvest. I do still check my trichomes.

If anyone has issues checking trichomes with a loupe- put the loupe physically ON the bud(s). This will stop it from shaking and will be way easier to check. For you guys with the fancy microscopes. No clue. I read that zip tying it to a mic stand or something really helps though.

i jam my scope right on the bud. It might fuck up some trichs but i dont have a shaking problem works for me.
 
I certainly have my own opinions on this, but I was curious how all of you felt about the determination of when to harvest? @Cultivators @Global Moderators @Admin

What make you decide on when to chop your plants?

No right answers, no wrong answers, just curious how everyone is making their determinations.
I usually harvest 7-10 days after pistils have gone orange.

When you think she is finished, wait a week
