[OPINIONS WANTED] How do YOU determine harvest window?

I generally go by the look of the trichomes and the plant overall. Plump buds and mostly dry pistils But..............

I have strain specific guidelines depending on the genetics. first off photoperiod sativa gets harvested a some clear mostly cloudy trichomes. This is going to give me a racy sativa high. Then Indica photoperiod with all cloudy and 10% amber is nice and relaxing. I will leave some of the plant for a late harvest with 30%+ amber for a sleep enhancing buzz - couch lock. Then for Sativa Autos I let them get mostly cloudy with 5% amber. This will be uplifting without the jaggies. Indica Autos get 20% amber for a mellow buzz.

I'm new. Joined last year. Harvested a lot of shit at the "breeders estimated time'. Racey at fuck. After 20+ successful autoflower harvests, my personal opinion is you don't even bust out the microscope until day 70, and 90+ is the more realistic time. I hate the racey high.

Outdoors seem to be more difficult. I'm in the desert. By day 60, trichome are super cloudy. Unlike my indoor grows, where you see clear trichome, I don't see that outdoors. They are super milky early. I've harvest several plants 60-70 days, skinny buds but all milky tri's. No bueno, very racy. Wait 3-4 more weeks and the buds will double in size, tri's will have some amber, and the high will have some 'stone' to it. IMO!!! to each his own!!

I like amber and I do check the trichs. But I usually determine harvest by the leaf fade. That’s proven to be, for me, to get the most “wow factor” for myself and the friends that I share with. Judging by the fade and die back on the fans works for me.

Usual disclaimers = most of the time, YMMV, etc.

:yeahthat: This is mostly how I do it.

What do you mean die back on the fans?

Towards the end of the plants life you will see a general yellowing from the tips to the base of the leaf. Sometimes even coloring of the leaves. It's uniform on the leaf not in random spots. And in my experience it starts at the top and goes down. It's a bit different from a deficiency or lockouts. Here's a perfect example a recent fade out of my cream mandarine

Best way I can describe it is it looks like the plant is sucking all the life out of the leaves in an effort to build buds.
