I think a time is quickly approaching where we'll look back on these days of crazy cannabis strain names and reminisce about "now" being the good old days...
With the ferocity of legalization sweeping the U.S. and many other countries, it's only a matter of time until the corporations step in.
And you know what that means...
A focus group to focus on the focus group.
Mass appeal.
Look at all the lame names they have come up with for pharmaceuticals.
Of course this will transfer right over to strains.
God forbid the fast food industry gets their hands into the bowl...
Would you like a McNug with your Mcshit burger
Once cannabis has a corporate logo attached,(outside of breeders of course) that is when I will take offense.
And I see that happening here in Colorado amongst the "industry" already.:nono:
Look out, it's coming...
Corporate cannabis.
Enjoy the days of small breeder influenced names while they last.:pass:

Bedrocan produces 6 strains of medicinal cannabis, which are made available by the Dutch Ministry of Health. Each is labeled with a standardized level of 3 cannabinoids: THC, CBD, and CBN.

Bedrocan®
Bedrocan® is considered a sativa type. Its THC-level is standardized at 22%, with a CBD-level below 1%. Its the most widely used cannabis offered by the Dutch Ministry, and has been used in more research than other varieties.

Bedrobinol®
Bedrobinol® is also considered a sativa. Its THC-level can be considered medium strength, standardized at 13,5%, with a CBD-level below 1 %.

Bediol®
Bediol® has a lower to medium THC-level, standardized at 6,5%, and a medium level of the non-psycho-active Cannabidiol (CBD), standardized at 8%. The effects of CBD are distinctly different from THC. Bediol is available in granulated form. Bediol is also a sativa type.

Bedica ®
Bedica® is considered an indica variety. It also has medium amounts of THC, around 14%, with less than 1% CBD. Characteristic differences between Indica and Sativa strains species can be found in the presence of odorous compounds (terpenes) in the plant. For example, a comparatively high amount of myrcene is found in Bedica ®, while little or no myrcene is found in the other three species. Myrcene is known to have a calming effect. Bedica ® is also available in granular form.

Bedrolite®
The non-psychoactive strain Bedrolite® is now available for patient use and research. Bedrolite is in the process of being standardized. It contains approximately 9% CBD and 0.4% THC. Bedrolite is available in the Netherlands and in countries supplied by the Dutch Health Ministry. CBD has distinct pharmacological properties. More information can be found on the website of the Office of Medicinal Cannabis of the Dutch Ministry of Health.

Bedropuur®
Bedropuur® is a high-THC indica variety, with less than 1% CBD. Bedropuur is only available in Canada and for research purposes.

No a Kush, cheese or blueberry in sight lol.

It's the risqué names I don't get like naming a harmless cannabis strain after a life destroying drug like Crystal Meth or Crack...where do we draw the line on decency? Will there be strains in the future with names like 'baby killer' or 'I hope your mom gets cancer' . A name is just words but when they can cause offence it should be frowned upon whether you like the name or not.
Man I said the same thing didn't get a thumbs up though

Love kush cheese blueberry probably dig this to though medicines medicine

It's the side effect of legalization; the thing is, saying I don't want the naming conventions to be forced to change doesn't mean I don't frown on tasteless names. I'm not going to buy a strain if the extent of their marketing it to me it "Check out this hot chick's tits!". You run into the same thing at car shows too, you know: "We've built a precision engineered, high-tech piece of machinery that can do 0-60 in 3 seconds, but more importantly, we put a woman in a bikini next to it!"

I want the trend of bizarre names to stay alive so that once the corporate world gets their filthy, homogenized mitts on it there will still be a mom and pop cottage industry where I can shop for strains and smile. I'll be buying Mephisto's lines (God willing) LOOONG after P&G release their "Cannidonol" sprays and Marlboro has a "Green Pack" of "Cannabis Cigarettes".

I was thinking a name is really important in some cases but not others. Like what a tool is called vs. a description of something.
I'm not like Chong willing to smoke Dog Shit.

In many cases, a name is just a name, take for example, Berry Ryder.
Unlike the other "ryder"-labeled strains out there, it does not grow short and compact, but rather tall and lanky. It has considerable inter-node distance, even with the lights kept close at all times.
I don't know about the quality yet, but I admit choosing it because of its name, I wanted a short, compact strain, due to restricted height in my mini tent. I LST a bit and things are great.

I have in the past for my own education tried to sample a few landrace based autos and others based on urban ledgand

The new names are cool though
