Short answer.. No.

I think a good understanding of Public Relations and product branding via Edward Bernays will allow one to see beyond a product or brand name.

More important to me is the work of the breeder.
Any breeder can have a "killer cut" of whatever... but if their work is shit.. well you know what you can expect to get in return.

Has the fact that most hash comes in "culero" form stopped anyone from smoking it?
Nope.
It's actually sought out.
Shitty as it may be..:crying:

I only care about the high. I don't care to much about silly trends or names just like I don't go to the bar and order a "Date Grape Kool-Aid" or a "Anus Butter" As good as they may or not be I am not going to order it.

As for weed I believe that Having offensive, vulgarer names is one thing. But adding words like Crack, Meth, Poison only hurts our cause from the non believers. They see it as a dangerous gateway drug so adding the dangerous drug names to our medicine is probably not the best way to convert the close minded non believers.

Great idea for a discussion. I think names can have a huge affect on a purchase, let's say I have a choice of Sticky Toffee Pudding OG or Granny's Shitty Knickers,

Say... I could grab some bag seed, label it "Granny's Shitty Knickers" and sell it for $10 a seed.

Maybe call it a limited edition to spark a buying frenzy, and use food coloring on some of the bag seeds to include them as exotic freebies.

Now what should I call my breeding company, how about Butt Nugget Seeds

Ooops, have I gone too far?

Ha! Granny's Shitty Knickers wins 2015 Cannabis cup for best new product

@Ronin + rep for a great docu link!! Love it:)

The point of a "good" name is - selling and standing out.
When one observes what happens in his/her head with catchy names, it becomes obvious it's all about triggering imagination.
Any seller knows this and is using these tools in his favour.

Thinking about this I remember a show by the great Bill Hicks:)

No offense

I was born in 1967. I've been professionally marketed and sold to my entire life. People will sell you anything you'll buy for as much as you'll pay. I know some business owners who simply buy low and sell high. The markups from the manufacturer to the point of retail sale are so grossly inflated it's actually difficult to believe the truth. 10 cent car chargers that sell for $50. Being on this site and seeing real grows happen with my own eyes is one way I cut through the hype. The purpose of advertising is to distort your perceptions and ultimately your values in the name of creating profits. Consider the cost of the best branded products, from Coke/Pepsi, the NFL, Mcdonalds, IPhones, Brad Pitt or Nicki Minaj and what determines that cost. Good post.

For me Strain Names not really the big thing you can come up with your superma red kryptonite kush or whatever its the genetical background that interessts me. If it has propper Parental Genetics than it might be coming into my Garden.

You must consider that most people on this site are 'educated' consumers and understand, at least at a low level, breeding and growing techniques. The general public, who makes up probably 90+% of the market, buys based upon bag appeal and name. Thats why everything is 'kush' this and 'kush' that, even when its not remotely KUSH.... cuz it sells. Im talking end product and consumers mostly, not as much growers. Ultimately most weed grown wont be consumed by those who grew it, so it must go somewhere and high demand = more regrows = more seed sales for the breeders.
