In the past few weeks I've discovered that I really like living soil! It's easier and plants seem really happy and vigorous. So yesterday I prepared my living soil and fabric pot. I used one bag of Buildasoil mix v3 (that's all I had) with about two other parts of depleted soil - some Buildasoil but mostly Happy Frog.
I mixed in some rice hulls and composted chicken poop from our chickens. I ordered Buildasoil Craft Blend for topdress and when it arrives tomorrow I'll apply then wait. According to Jeremy at Buildasoil, the pot should be prepared a couple of weeks in advance, so that the soil food web can start growing in preparation for feeding the plants. I think it will be about two weeks before I'm ready to transplant, so that's perfect.
All three APK11 seedlings will go into this pot. I'll just cull any males when the time comes, and this pot can easily handle two plants outside, so long as I can keep it from drying out.
In past experience with chicken poop, I've discovered that plants in veg love it. But a couple of times I've noticed really bad leaf discoloration during flower, so I applied it a little more sparingly this time. I am using chicken poop for my other living soil grow and it's in flower and still doing well.
This is only my second living soil grow, and the first one I'll be conducting outside.
There's a really good how-to at
Edit: It's a 20 gallon pot, BTW. Should allow some big, healthy plants.
