Update! The Liquid Silicon post...
Everything is going nice and dandy. Trimmed of a couple of dying leaves. Still not sure about the LEDs, I only now realized I may have burnt the plants with feed and not from the light. I upped the EC way to quick and I misread the Canna grow guide. I should have topped of the veg cycle @ 1.4 and I was giving them the recommended 1.6 for the first week of flowering (in my defense, the grow guide says Veg even though the light cycle is 12/12... my bad anyways!)
So still going round in circles with this one... :headpain:
I've discovered that my LED's spectrum is not ideal (kudos to J TaNg), I have an extremely high ration of Red 630nm where preferably it should be Deep Red 660nm. Its not that far off at all, and theoretically better that HPS... but the high intensity could also lead to the plants metabolisms getting skewed off track... More on that later on a next test. Everything is back to nice fresh green, and they're really taking off, so the plan is to keep it this way for now!
Got a new bottle of Growth Technology Liquid Silicon. I had the 250ml bottle (french version) and I got a 1L bottle (spanish). Both are 6% Potassium Silicate.
On the 250ml they advise 1ml/L, but on the french version they advise 0.5ml/L !! Whaaaaat ?!?! They themselves are not sure ?! loool... so following the "less is more" paradigm, I've lowered to 0.5.
Man, this is the sh*t. The main stems are THICKER now than any of the 7 haversted plants from my first "grow" (if one could call it that...). I swapped one of my NQ seeds with a friend (for the Purple Haze, that has gone MIA... where heck did that plant go!?), who is doing compost light mix, and its ridiculous how much bigger and better mine are... guess airpots and coco also have a say in that, but it is amazing.
Anyway, back to LS... that realization made me go into a reading frenzy, along with my LED conundrum... Started fearing lockout from excess Cal Mag, so I backed down a little, from 1ml to 0.5 (Also switched from Calm Mag veg to bloom, which has less N and Ca)... and luckily I was reminded to STOP giving LS in about 2 - 3 week's time.
So I re-did my feed formula to compensate EC and was quite shocked at the result. Really, its amazing if you start taking note, how soooooo little change can make suuuuuch a big difference. 0.5 less of this and 0.5 more of that and WHAM, the proportions are incredibly different!
Also, did a 10% dilution of pH(-) into a bottle of spring water, as it's such a strong buffering agent, albeit diluted, as I lower the pH I am able to maintain pH(-) concentration in the mix! So in essence, I can lower the pH WITHOUT affecting the EC... very cool ! Check both graphs. I can now replicate the formula blindly without checking pH at every drop, and it is spot on! That saved me 15 mins at each reservoir mix!
Ridiculous findings. Less is so much more!!
This was the last feed regime before the 12/12 flip...
and this was the new formulation with less Cal Mag and LS
I'm just speechless at the difference and was a real eye opener! Man will I take things slow from now on!! (and I though I WAS!! lool)
and as usual, the heights tracking. FINALLY little Ortega 1 & 2 have took off! Guess the LED and excess nute stunted them.
hoooo-ha!
