:yoinks: ...looks like my Marine Biology lab test!... I'll fork my share over to Aunty and J-Ray since I dislike seafood....:rolleyes2: Thanks just the same!

@Mossy ... orchid porn, expanded edition... Hecno mate, it's overdue!

>>> First time this Stanhopea martiana dropped this many spikes, off a smaller division no less! Mother plant hardly has any
...aroma is fantastic, better then usual with more vanilla smell, not as much heady floral like Narcissus and Lilly of the Valley, plus a dash of library paste...

>>>> a favorite small species, Maxillaria schunkeana... this one I got for the flower alone, color, translucency... pics do no justice to this amazing deep cranberry purple-red color, plastic-looking too! ...tough to get pics of, this pot is blown-out full and flowers are buried...

:smoking: Thanks J-Ray, glad it made you smile.... Stanhopea flower construction is so bizarre to the eye, but it's all about the pollinator, mainly euglossine bees I think? ....the shapes/contours, textures, aroma source all make for a sort of obstacle course that lures them in, then forces them down a path that leads right out of the front... above the lip (labellum) is the column, a united sex parts structure; at the very tip you can see a small nub (anther cap), more pokey bits under that. As the bee exits, it hits those trigger bits, anther cap gets knocked off and then gets a pollen pack glued on it's butt... Onto the next flower, same deal but there's a structure to snag the pollen pack (on a small stalk typically so it sticks up) as it exits... :help::rofl:
This is the orchid family's amazing deal, they all need a carrier of some kind, and have inveted the most unlikely ways to go about achieveing the same end result!
