No pollen yet - howcum?

@Olderfart

I found 25 g of silver and 500 g of sodium thiosulfate anhydrous (smallest containers I could find) for 70 something CAD and another 70 something CAD shipping.
So it cost me about 150 CAD.
0.1 gram of silver nitrate makes me 100 ml of stock solution and 0.5 gram of sodium thiosulfate anhydrous makes 100 ml of stock solution
I refrigerate my stock solutions and mix my STS as needed.
I use 5 ml of each stock and mix with 90 ml distilled water to get 100 ml of STS which is enough to reverse a couple of plants.
stock solution I've heard will last in the fridge for up to a year in a sealed light proof container. once the stocks are mixed with distilled water the STS last for about a month (in fridge for storage and in a light proof container.)
I mix my solution in a brown glass spray bottle and wrapped the bottle in duct tape (and labeled poison)
I'm still on my first stock solutions which will make about 2000 ml of STS.
That is with .1 gram of silver multiply that by 10 it's 20000 ml per gram so 25 grams will give you 500000 ml of STS.
the way I look at it is for 150 CAD I got a life times worth of STS and my last seed run (AK-47 auto) I got 357 seeds.
At approx. 10 per seed that's about 3570 CAD so my STS has already paid for itself.
It is cheaper in the long run if you are buying C/S and probably even cheaper than making C/S when you add up the cost of silver, power supply
and it definitely takes less time to make than C/S.
I will stand behind my words "It is worth purchasing"

Good luck!
Yeah, those were the prices that turned me off. If CS works, I got my lifetime supply for a fraction of the STS cost. I don't intend to do that many plants, so getting far more STS than I will ever use was not attractive either. With luck, the CS approach will get me what I want, we shall see.

In any case, thanks for the help, I appreciate you taking the time. :pighug:

Well, I chopped and trimmed one cola, separated the "buds", and put them in a mason jar with a bag of silica gel. After they have dried completely, I will grind and sift. If this doesn't work, I have several more colas full of pollen sacs, so there will be further options...

Thanks everyone for the feedback, your comments convince me that there will be pollen in them thar buds. :pighug:

I'm right behind you with my CS/pollen attempt, this thread has been helpful

I'm curious about STS but wanted a simple entry point, so I picked up some of this: https://twenty20mendocino.com/sts
I don't know if that's within your budget, but since autos are really small when they get transitioned, I'm thinking I can get somewhere between 2 and 4 uses from the amount in the kit, mixing a fresh batch each time. Haven't tried it yet, first go was Tiresias Mist, the Twenty20 will come next (you can see the pattern here...). If this becomes a regular thing then I suppose I'll look into making my own of which ever one works better for me, but what I have on hand will last for a year or two given the time it takes to do these pollen runs.

Even my fairly young pollen sacks had good pollen. I think you will be very surprised in a day after you shift it.

Here's hoping. After a day in the jar with the bag of silica gel, I see nada. Grinding and sifting will be interesting. I don't have a grinder with a screen, so I will be using a one cup coffee filter. Looks like it should work a treat. Necessity being the mother and all that.

I hope I manage to get my pollen soon, my little stud plant is starting to stink up the basement.

metal coffee filter? Should still work but you will get alot of plant material mixed in it.

Looks good, let us know how it goes.

I guess I'll find out, the screen looks seriously fine to my eye. I will document the result once I try it. I still have the stud plant with lots of balls maturing further, so I can always go to plan B. I can even try more than one approach and compare. It may prove helpful that I reversed the entire plant.

Any updates?
