thanx a lot mate ! I could do with getting better light on the veg side im thinking myself ! the smaller choc orange seedling I started yesterday hasn't grown hardly any since , it looks like its needing more watts onit to give it a boost ! the t5's work well in summer but certainly a different story in winter , I lose a lot more in percentage of germing rates

a question plz , how far away do you have your hps from early seedlings safley without burning them ?

the six shooter yes is an interesting one ! I wish I had the space to grow it to a fuller size , I bet you would grow a monster in yours mate

Probably about a metre but I guess I might get away with a little closer in winter than summer before temps get out of range for me.

According to the "sunny f/16" rule photographers used to use to guess exposure settings before auto-exposure I reckon you need to be about 6" (150mm) from a 600W HPS to get close to how bright it is outside on a sunny day. If I take pics at ISO 100, 1/100th and f/16 the are underexposed until you get very close to the bulb whereas it should be fairly close to a correct exposure outside on a sunny day.

Wonder how much light it takes to be able to use the sunny f/16 rule at canopy level?......that could be spectacular lol:haha:

:pass:

cheers for the advice ! ile remember that thanx ! so I guess hps has same par reading as the attual sun ray has when at that height away from it ? I wonder what the par levels on the leds read ?

If hps had a dimmer or lesser power setting on them like the leds have would be great ! ive been looking at this new mars model tina from mars hydro mentioned coming out soon , veg mode is only 79w ! https://www.mars-hydro.com/uk/mars-pro-ii-epistar-80-led-grow-light-uk.html

I believe the higher end digital ballasts can vary output depending upon temperature (or a more basic power setting dial) but even some of the cheaper magnetic ballasts can use different bulbs as a way to control output. The ones I use are even more basic than that though.. One doesn't even have an on/off switch! :smoking:

Nice looking panels...I reckon 4 like that in the space I've got auto green crack in would be good with longer nft tables that can take 2 plants comfortably.

they look great don't they mate . ! not sure of price of them , there are some cracking home made leds members are building on here aint they ! , could do with knowing more on that area , why i went for led inittualy was to dissaway with the hotness the ballasts pump out , the smarter bunch making there own leds on here know the score , there not soft

I'd probably have gone LED by now if I'd been growing downstairs too. The heat from the HPS is probably a big factor in my draughty attic though so I'm thinking temp controlled HPS backing up LEDs......they'll all fire up at lights on then when things get toasty the HPS will lower it's output.

If Auto Green Crack goes as well as Auto Purple Amnesia did then I'll hopefully be half LED by summer:eyebrows:

APA is a ripper huh?:smoking::pass:

yes I see your point totally about hps being better in loft ! its drafty an cold in mine also ! the first light i got was a 600w hps but only tried it for half a day an by then it burned all my new seedlings to nothing and I ended gave it away because of the heat issue I had with it also ! but the area never had any ventilation back then ! I was trying to jump the gun short cutting everything with mistakes ! but its nice to learn the hard way ! . I have been using t5s for quite some time before I dabbled in led lighting ! I didn't believe they worked at first but seeing peoples grows convinced me enough ! the upfront cost is there but knowing your more likely to get a number of years out of light without replacement bulbs is handy ! and grow an bloom switch is great power saving option !

nice one kush the apa is another different landscape on the palate for me ! nice aint it ! its abit like sweet seeds +speed with the critical sweet&spicy taste in there ! another good shortstuff strain to mark down !
the green crack sounds the dogs ! sounds a good daytime medicine ! ile be seeing how you get on with growing your for future reference !
thanx!

00 seeds cali kush auto , how its currently looking at the minuite, ph 6.0 its suffering abit with the bigger strain next to it getting the best of the light !

My thoughts are Im thinking this bigger strain has to be the joint doctors new critical ogre auto ! by the look of and shape !

Ifso ! , The Joint doctor & Dinafem genetics have created something special here ! :clapper: If breeders can breed this structure together with something else with equally good aspects & qualitys then im sure that's gunna be something else !!!!! :weed: this reminds me of when a plant has been hit with gibberelic acid ! they way it shot up but no nasty gib was used here !
