New Grower New grower: third set of seeds...

Day 21
  • The plants seem to be doing well. I did top one of my plants (@autobeast why is topping so scary the first time?!?), and I’m trying LST on another. I have attached pics of two of the non-trained plants of possible concern. The first just has some subtle mottling of color; the second has yellow dots on some leaves (but very small percent of leaves and scattered - not consistently old vs new growth). I don’t see any little bugs on the leaves (I did find a 1/4” juvenile grasshopper in the tent which I squished - guts confirmed he munched on my plants somewhere but I didn’t see the nibbles. He wasn’t on this plant when I found him, but..). Nute-wise, I’ve given 1/4 dose of FF trio, 1/4 dose MicrobeBrew plus half-strength molasses once, and they got 3ml/gal CalMag once before I noticed the spots... (to clarify: these were NOT given at one time; water-only was between each of the three different “nute” waterings. Everything pH’d 6.4-6.6). @Proph has since taught me to (almost) never give CalMag so I promise I won’t do that again! Given that the mottled one is growing well, I am guessing it’s just a genetic thing. The spots will keep me looking for bugs, but I’m guessing I created a minor nute imbalance with the CalMag... does anyone agree/disagree or have other thoughts I can learn from? I do have sticky traps and I have not caught anything.

One more question: I have my 6” inline fan of course plus an oscillating fan moving the (upper) leaves nicely. When watering today, I noticed there are small leaves underneath each plant’s canopy that are pretty much on the dirt. Should I carefully snip these off?

Reminder that I do plan to space the plants out as they grow to another tent. I know they can’t stay at this density for much longer.

    Thanks for reading.

    Day 31
  • Plants seem to be doing well - no major issues (had some mild Mag def/lockout, but I didn’t change anything to my routine (other than eliminating CalMag) and it hasn’t progressed. I’ve started trimming the lowest leaves that get no light at the bottom - no more than a couple a day. I’ve increased my watering to a half gallon every other day (results in minimal if any runoff). I switched to 20/4 due to heat management issues midday (I kept my DLI the same at 40). I moved two out of this tent as it was getting crowded. Knocking on wood, but so far so good!

    Day 40
  • Plants continue to grow nicely. Watering 2liters every other day. Keeping DLI around 40-44. Temps 77-82, RH around 50. Giving the “transition to flower” stage nutes of FF trio at 1/4 strength, every third watering, plus recharge once a week. The Gorilla Glue in the lower left corner of the tent pic is developing some yellow leaves as of this morning. Nitrogen deficiency? Should I increase the veg nutes again? (All close ups are of the GG in question).

Also: I tried LST on one skywalker (not in this tent any longer - moved with shorter plants to keep light levels correct). It rounded out nicely and is pretty even. Do I take the wire ties off now, or just leave them?
    Thanks!

    HELP PLEASE
  • Day 44. I fed with 1/4 strength FF trio nutes plus 1/2 tsp/gal Wholly Mackerel for some added N as I think they’re showing more N deficiency. Does anyone agree? Suggestions on better management? Also, it seems they’re really going through water faster. I was doing 2L every other day (and nutes every third feed, so every sixth day). I’m thinking I’ll start watering maybe every 36 hours and increase the nute feeds to twice a week. Is this reasonable?

    Day 50
  • The girls seem to be liking a higher dose of food. I’ve increased to 500ppm of nutes (above base water ppm). I fed them two days in a row, then did water only once. They definitely perked up and are greener. Will feed them again tomorrow. I see a little light green/yellow, so I may feed the next two days. They’re requiring watering daily now. Trying to find their happy “balance”. Overall, though, they seem to be doing pretty well (knock on wood…).

    Day 53
  • The girls are still coming along. Green is better. Getting some small brown spots on the left lower plant, but I suspect it’s the change in nutes. Trying to keep environment dialed in. Keeping pH steady. Watering daily. Almost week 8, so going to back off the N slowly, and watch for any recurrence of yellowing.
I took a close up of some buds on the back right plant. These look about right? Is this where they should be? Am I correct that I should be expecting them to “fatten up” over the next few weeks? Seeing just a few pistils turning brown. Anything look amiss? Thanks!

    Day 59
  • Seeing what I think is phosphorous deficiency in the lower left plant. Not progressing, though, so I’m guessing it is just showing up now from the too-low nute period. Giving FF flower nutes (including ChaChing) for total nute ppm of 500 every third watering. Getting molasses on one of the in-between waterings.

Starting to watch trichomes. Seeing mostly clear still, though a few cloudy and even the occasional amber. Please confirm if I’m seeing this correctly. Still telling myself two-ish more weeks.

I know I should be entering the “fade” period, so will expect to see leaf changes and not panic that it’s a nute issue. Any thoughts/suggestions appreciated.

    Day 71
  • Girls are coming along, but still good number of white pistils and clear trichomes. “Patiently” waiting for this to change…. In the meantime, a plant that was started almost a week later became my first harvest! A Mephisto Sour stomper came from behind and hit the 25% amber mark at 65 days. Have her in the dry tent now (trimmed off all fan leaves and hung the individual branches; will do a full wet trim on another plant to compare the process/results). Really appreciate everyone on AFN - this community is just awesome.
