New Grower New grower: third set of seeds...

Day 21
The plants seem to be doing well. I did top one of my plants (@autobeast why is topping so scary the first time?!?), and I’m trying LST on another. I have attached pics of two of the non-trained plants of possible concern. The first just has some subtle mottling of color; the second has yellow dots on some leaves (but very small percent of leaves and scattered - not consistently old vs new growth). I don’t see any little bugs on the leaves (I did find a 1/4” juvenile grasshopper in the tent which I squished - guts confirmed he munched on my plants somewhere but I didn’t see the nibbles. He wasn’t on this plant when I found him, but..). Nute-wise, I’ve given 1/4 dose of FF trio, 1/4 dose MicrobeBrew plus half-strength molasses once, and they got 3ml/gal CalMag once before I noticed the spots... (to clarify: these were NOT given at one time; water-only was between each of the three different “nute” waterings. Everything pH’d 6.4-6.6). @Proph has since taught me to (almost) never give CalMag so I promise I won’t do that again! Given that the mottled one is growing well, I am guessing it’s just a genetic thing. The spots will keep me looking for bugs, but I’m guessing I created a minor nute imbalance with the CalMag... does anyone agree/disagree or have other thoughts I can learn from? I do have sticky traps and I have not caught anything.

One more question: I have my 6” inline fan of course plus an oscillating fan moving the (upper) leaves nicely. When watering today, I noticed there are small leaves underneath each plant’s canopy that are pretty much on the dirt. Should I carefully snip these off?

Reminder that I do plan to space the plants out as they grow to another tent. I know they can’t stay at this density for much longer.

Thanks for reading.

Yep you can clean up all that lower inside growth np

Hi I was wondering about how long it has taken your beans to pop in water soaking, and if you keep them in dark or light while they're in the drink. I've had trouble getting anything to sprout that way, I just put 4 into soil today under a dome with a heat bulb outside to try and get them over the top. They had soaked for nearly 72 hrs.

I've had trouble getting anything to sprout that way, I just put 4 into soil today under a dome with a heat bulb outside to try and get them over the top. They had soaked for nearly 72 hrs.

I’ve read so many ways to germinate, and I’ve tried a few. My best technique so far: soak seeds in the dark for 24 hours (on seedling mat at 80 degrees; I use distilled water), then place in pre-moistened Jiffy Pellets (cover with just enough peat material to block light to the seed; don’t place too deep). I put the humidity dome over them and place under light (I start with lux ~3500 initially) and on the 80 degree seedling mat. I occasionally spritz the inside of the dome to keep things moist, but you shouldn’t have to actually water for a few days if you moisten the pellets correctly.

I have had zero success soaking more than 36 hours. I believe genetics play a HUGE part (ILGM germ rates vary widely by strains; Mephisto I’ve had 100%). A warmer environment has improved my success, too, I believe (I didn’t initially use the seedling heat mat).

Obviously, I am very new to this but this is what seems to be working for me. Good luck!

Day 31
Plants seem to be doing well - no major issues (had some mild Mag def/lockout, but I didn’t change anything to my routine (other than eliminating CalMag) and it hasn’t progressed. I’ve started trimming the lowest leaves that get no light at the bottom - no more than a couple a day. I’ve increased my watering to a half gallon every other day (results in minimal if any runoff). I switched to 20/4 due to heat management issues midday (I kept my DLI the same at 40). I moved two out of this tent as it was getting crowded. Knocking on wood, but so far so good!

Day 40
Plants continue to grow nicely. Watering 2liters every other day. Keeping DLI around 40-44. Temps 77-82, RH around 50. Giving the “transition to flower” stage nutes of FF trio at 1/4 strength, every third watering, plus recharge once a week. The Gorilla Glue in the lower left corner of the tent pic is developing some yellow leaves as of this morning. Nitrogen deficiency? Should I increase the veg nutes again? (All close ups are of the GG in question).

Also: I tried LST on one skywalker (not in this tent any longer - moved with shorter plants to keep light levels correct). It rounded out nicely and is pretty even. Do I take the wire ties off now, or just leave them?
Thanks!

HELP PLEASE
Day 44. I fed with 1/4 strength FF trio nutes plus 1/2 tsp/gal Wholly Mackerel for some added N as I think they’re showing more N deficiency. Does anyone agree? Suggestions on better management? Also, it seems they’re really going through water faster. I was doing 2L every other day (and nutes every third feed, so every sixth day). I’m thinking I’ll start watering maybe every 36 hours and increase the nute feeds to twice a week. Is this reasonable?

As you are only going 1/4 strength, maybe try feeding with every watering, or up the nutes a bit. And yep, they really start to take up the water.
