My 400w hps keeps turning off every 10-15 min. when I turn the power strip off then on again it turns on but like I said it keeps shutting off. My plants have about a week or 2 left is my hps bulb slowly dying out or what? Please help

"most hps unless it is a conversion bulb have external ignitor and when a mh or hps is shut off it will not refire till it cools off never started it without waiting 5-10 minutes

as for why it is shutting off check all wire connections for loose wire and if bulb is old might need replacing"

Couple questions fweedom:

1) What brand / model is your bulb and what brand / model is your ballast?

2) Is your ballast dirty at all?

3) Are all the fins of the heat sink free and clear of debris?

4) Can air flow freely around your ballast?

5) Is your ballast unusually hot to the touch at the 15 minute mark?

It almost seems like it might be some type of internal safety shutoff kicking in, but I have pretty limited experience with them. Hopefully someone with more knowledge will be in soon.

Very difficult question to answer without knowing your set up. My advice would be to buy a new bulb and buy a surge protected plug socket too.

Sounds like your surge power strip is going out and for some reason is tripping the circuit.Try another light strip.

I'm not sure exactly ill post a pic soon but my ballast is by my vent its clean and actually stays cool.

Sounds like your ballast may be overheating, tripping the thermal overload. Does it feel very hot to the touch?
