I picked up a used all inclusive package deal with tents, some lights, fan, filter, misc ducting.

I did not get much of a chance to look at the ballasts and bulbs until a week after I bought the gear and started to setup the main tent.

I know the seller had some different lighting that was brand new and he returned it. And I'm left with the following.

BTW this is a personal med grow where I have an 8x8 tent that I plan on putting anywhere from 8 to max 15 plants. And I plan on doing autoflower only at least for a while.

I'm trying to figure out how to take the gear that I have and make it in to a lighting system that will be simple to use for autoflowers.

I have 2x's 600 watt magnetic ballasts from UltraGrow. These are HPS ballasts. This do not have any switching for bulb types or any kind of adjustment for wattage.

I also have 2 x's 400 watt Philips HPS bulbs that should in theory have low hours.

And I have 2 x's tube coolers with reflectors.

I was hoping I could take the parts I have and make them do duty for full cycle autogrows. I'd like to be able to reuse the ballasts and tube reflectors and have a simple low cost bulb strategy where I don't have to change bulbs when transitioning from seedlings to veg plants to flowers.

Can I totally assume the 400 watt MH Philips bulbs won't work with the ballast and I can't even use the 400 watts during times I don't need full 600 watt? Or will I have to get new 600 watt HPS lights? And can I egt 600 watt HPS bulbs that are full spectrum that I can use for the full play lifecycle?

Or would I be better off selling the lights I have and replace them with something else?

imo, just get 2x full spec 600w globes and get going!

not sure if the 400w will strike in your ballast, maybe? Try at own risk but if it works, use in veg to save your 600w globes.

The 400w bulbs should only be used with a 400w ballast. Sounds like you need either a new ballast that will allow you dim the watts down to use the 400w bulbs, or all new 600w bulbs.. Both hps and mh.
