New Grower My third attempt at hydroponics and first grow journal

Thanks. You are a plethora of information! I should probably look online but it seems some of the online information has not been quite correct. Would a regular ball cock style float valve for a toilet work. I was a maintenance man for almost 10 years and have worked with hundreds of them. I could rig one to work with a top off tank. What I am going to do is take a half inch dowel and use it to mark off the depth of each gallon for each tank when I change them out in two days so I know exactly what I’ve got in there until I do a float valve set up. That should help with what I need to top off the tank until then.
You want to be sure that no copper, brass or aluminum comes in contact with the nutrient containing water - not even the smallest fitting or screw. Plastic or Stainless Steel are ok. I learned this the hard way and had a thread on it somewhere?

Thanks for the info on the metal toxicology. It was definitely useful. I decided on getting the FluidMaster float valve. They are completely made out of plastic and are less than six dollars apiece at Walmart. Cheaper than any hydroponic float valve I could find online or at the hardware store. One of the great things about them is you don’t have to have lots of water pressure to engage them. Think of a constantly running toilet. So those with supply valves, elbows, sealant or grommets, and 50 gal tote will cost less than $50 to put together. I already have the waterline I need so I won’t be buying any of that. I just have to put together a stand to hold the tote. And since it will be gravity fed I won’t have to worry about pumps.

It’s update time again! Day 61 of grow and day 33 of flowering. The girls are getting bigger and bushier and the buds are starting to fill in. So far so good! No issues at this time.

I got another tote to start another crop. But I will first have to rearrange things in the tent to accommodate it. I will also be adding 4 more LED light panels to the mix since they are not being used and only gathering dust. It will accommodate two 6” net pots and four 3 3/4” net pots. I’ll have it set up sometime next week. Unless something happens that I need help with I will be updating again sometime next week. Till then, keep it real!

Looking good, Tumbleweed. Looks like you are up for a longer grow, but will definitely be worth it!

Thanks Pigskin. Did a late prune job on them shortly after they started flowering. I knew their growth was going to slow down if I did it but I didn’t prune very well before flowering.:wall:

in this digital age its so good to see a good ol pen and paper job
happy girls
:pighug:

Thanks Archie. This is what I’m relegated to after spending four out of five years in college studying structural engineering and architecture and then throwing it all away to get married a little over 30 years ago!:wall:
At least I can remember how to still do some of the drafting.
