New Grower My third attempt at hydroponics and first grow journal

Get some Botanicare HydroGuard and use it throughout your grow....... the proof is in the pudding. You might also read my DWC thread here just to make sure you have the bases covered. It looks like you have all of the pieces to the puzzle except hydroguard.

Thanks Man O Green. Put an order in with Amazon for it today. It should be here Tuesday and I will start using it then. As long as it works that’s all I care about. I don’t want the same thing happening to this crop as did my last 2 crops.

Good luck Tumbleweed! I will be watching your grow with interest. I have my first DWC going also, and am dealing with seriously hot temps in my garage right grow cabinet. However, I have a water chiller set to 66, and so far the plants don't seem to mind the ambient temp, as long as the roots are happy. The water bottles can have the same affect.

Check out my journal, if you have time,

Man o green, I read your thread also. Very good info. Thanks for sharing. I have a water chiller in my res to keep temps exactly at 66. Do you still recommend me using hydrogaurd? I have extremely high ambient cabinet temps, averaging at 95 degrees. Would it help plants in my situation, in your opinion?

I had a DWC with root rot so bad the whole root ball looked like putrefied brown sludge. Three days after starting HydroGuard they were pristine white and growing again! I thought it was a miracle.

Hi @Pigskinfantasy Yes I do recommend HydroGuard because high temperature is not the only factor in root rot.

How’s it growing my fellow AFNer’s! Thanks to all who have given me bits of advice to help. Today is the start of week two and my girls are doing just fine so far. I decided to remove the drip irrigation and use the pumps for water circulation, makes it easier for the nutes to mix. Waiting on the Hydroguard to come in tomorrow so I can add it to my reservoir to help prevent root rot. I turned on the LEDs as well and will see how things go with a combination of CFL‘s and LEDs. I’m hoping more light will help increase my yields. I’ll also have to keep an eye on the temperature in the tent to ensure that it doesn’t increase too much.
So here is something I noticed. When my tent is closed up it is sealed tight, so much so that the walls of the tent get sucked in because of my exhaust fan. I figured since I have a duct running from my air conditioning vent down into the tent I wouldn’t need to open the vent flaps at the bottom of the tent. So my question is, is this good or should I open the vent flap? My temperature in the tent without the LEDs was running between 78 and 82° and my air conditioning is set at 76°. I still have to wait and see what the temperature will be once the LEDs are on for a little while. I’m assuming that there will be some sort of a temperature increase as the LEDs are flat panels only. I included pictures of the ductwork along with the weekly pictures of my girls.

straighened up nicely  tent walls should suck in just a smidge,if they dont then that means some smelly air is not getting sucked through carbon filter.do the sides still suck in with a flap open to ?
good luck n keep er lit
:pighug:

I opened the vent flap and the walls slacked up a bit. Fortunately I don’t have the need for a carbon filter/scrubber where I live at. It is pretty isolated here being that there is nothing here but orange groves and cow pastures. People don’t visit me I visit them. And the owner of the property lives 1800 miles north of me. I just have my exhaust duct running to a window with a fan in the window to pull the air out. :eyebrows:
