My plants look terrible and are getting worse

Starting ppm of my tap water is 40. I’ve only checked the run off twice ( the last two feedings). I only just now started to water till run off. I’ve probably watered till run off 4 or 5 times maybe. I have always ph their water to 6.4 or 6.5 the ph meter I have is apera I calibrate it every two weeks l. I’m a absolutely new grower. I’ve never grown tomatoes or anything.

PH being out of range most certainly causes lock-outs.

I do not like to badmouth any product but the Fox Farm Ocean Forest and Happy Frog are by far the most troublesome mediums in the infirmary. I think it comes down to quality control. If the nutrients incorporated into the mix are not in balance then you can easily run out of a nutrient while the others remain good. Then when you fertigate the one that was low is now good but the others can go too high causing an imbalance and lock-out. It is not PPM that causes a lock-out it is an imbalance in the nutrients that add up to that PPM that can cause a lock-out. These are the most current nutrient balances recommended:

So lets say the FFOF is getting low on Nitrogen it is obvious since the plant is turning light green and the bottom leaves are getting yellow So you feed a balanced 4g of MC 3.0 (555 PPM) per gallon. You already had enough Potassium in the soil but you added more. You may cause a Magnesium lock-out. So you see because you do not know what is remaining in the soil it is a crap shoot to start fertilizing. There are a lot of possible lock-out combinations from over feeding into an unknown.

I personally have grown 5 crops or more with GreenLeaf with good results. I experiment a lot with it and have done some bad things but that is not the MC's fault. My current grow is MC 2 part on their schedule and the grow is going very well.

I got my probe. I have to go pick up my son from his friends as soon as I get back I will report what the results are!

@pop22

How often are you watering?
A PH of 6.4 to 6.5 should be ok in soil.
However , experience with peat tells me your ph is a little high with MC.
What is you runoff ph?
Consider a full flush to clean out the soil and finish with a MEASURED EC of MC.
Not just 3 or 4 grams per gallon of water.
You want 400 to 500 ppm .
Adding epsom to 70ppm is also a good idea. But but not more than that.
PH adjust you mix after adding your MC to 5.9 or 6.0
The damage done cannot be repaired.
But the plant will survive.
Harvest quality,eh..who knows
Even the experts here on the site have screwed up when first started.
Do not give up.
Learn and move on

Thank you @GeorgeCloney these plants are in FFOF. All of my new babies are in pro mix. I didn’t want to run the ffof this time after these problems I’m having even tho I can guarantee these problems are caused by me lol

I checked all of my plants soil ph with the accurate 8. And I’m not so sure I didn’t get a bad soil probe. All of the FFOF plants were at 7 ph. My canna coco older plants checked at 6.8 or 6.9. I have five day old sprouts in pro mix bx and they all checked out at 6.6 or 6.7. So that’s where I’m at. What do you think I should do?

I watered all the ffof plants @ 6.4 with plain water till 20% run off. Hopefully that will start getting them back in check!

Ok then we have covered all of the environmental and input information and I agree with @Proph classic overfeeding lock-out. It is a beginners mistake but I also blame the industry. So here's the problem us home growers do not have a lab or a crystal ball to tell us what is in your pot. Flushing will remove the salts but you still have the hard mineral components that FFOF started with and how to build on top of that is the challenge. Farmers never give up. What do you think?

I think I’ll just water at 6.4 one or two more times and if I don’t see an improvement on new growth I’ll flush.
