Gnome Automatics My Journey to ALF#5

For all you lurkers.....:spels:

And hell for some of you vets that want to go over to LED. SOOOOOO many questions about light height, i know i sure as hell had them when i made the change over. There were more than just light height for me, i have a huge issue with eye balance. Where if it is out of alignment it will drive me bonkers. I like to take a step back from my tents, and make sure the lights are centered, and the main reason for that is spectrum blend and the proper over lap of the panels in the room to the height and width of the tent.

I really think that its important when running several LED's of the blurple type to make sure the blend as well as over lap is balanced. Nice thing about getting that sweet spot is i haven't had to lower my lights in a LONG time. Most of you know by now that i run 2 Platinum LED p300 panels. This is in a 3x3x5'3'' tent.

Lights are spaced as follows, the two rails that they send you are running parallel with the side rails of the tent. and spaced at 10 in centers. This measurement is taken from the rails inside the tent not the outsides. I hang from carabiners and then ratchet straps to the cables that came with the panels. Now given they are so long i fold them in half and run the clip through both loops and allow the weight of the light to center the cable as they hang. With the p300's this should give you a space from the side wall at about 8 inches and the gap between the two should be 8 inches as well. Giving you a proper overlap to use the center and not loose anything to footprint. My lights end up being about 32-34 inches above my plants and they seem to love it. Pots are 5x5x7 hydro farm square pots. Love the drop in these, should allow for a medium size plant in a small foot print. Hold about .5 gal of medium.

This is what it looks like when im done. Also still gives me enough room for a 6in in-line fan and carbon filter.:goodluck:

Sure,

Sometimes ill get a seed or two that will stay on the seedling. They can kill it too, now its not something that happens a lot but it can happen. I dont usually worry about it much as i have a decent seed stock over here but i still dont like to loose a seedling, hell i couldnt kill off germ test seed....

The seed will almost look like its ready to open all the way but its stuck on a "hinge" what i do its wet the seed and wait a few seconds, i have a pair of reverse loaded tweezers. The kind that you have to press to open and they auto go back to close. Ill grad the one side of the open seed and then with a fingernail catch the tip of the other side. Open it up and it should be fine. Just be careful you can take the head right off too lol..
ahhh yes ... I have seen this.... I was hoping for something else lmao...
mine kinda looks like a clam with its tounge trying to pop out.... the tail is showing but cant push threw, I actually wanted to shuck it
if I'm not mistaken your talking about it wearing the shell as a hat... if that makes sense lmao its early

p.s. I still mean this..... best threads ever lmao
digging the pepper plant in the back.. and proper tent!!!

I had to perform some mild surgery on this current grow for the Night Queen when she was just popping out shell got stuck. Did what FD said, spray it a few times throughout the day and it started to open a little more but still kinda wrapped in the shell membrane left over. Use a hobby style x-acto knife to just the membrane a little where I could without hitting the closed cotyledons. Was then able to use tweezers and just slip it off like a wet sock if you will! Was very nervous about having to do this but it grew to be a great plant, glad I could save it.

Looking great FD! Nice tips about the light height as well, very detailed and explained well!

:smoking:

Couple updates here guys.....Ive moved everything into the platinum tent so they get that proper spec. @PlatinumLEDTom little info for people who ask you questions. I have posted some heights and measurements for proper hanging in a tent and now ill share a little more info. Right now as of today we are running both switches in there. On the later girls and the seedlings to see what stage they respond the best to the switches. I wasnt worried about the bigger gals as it was time for them. They hit sex this week so it was time, the seedlings are 30+ in below right now. Zero stretch, on them and this was before both switches turned. Now that they are on both there is still no stretch as i didnt expect that and no leaf curl so the intensity is ok on them .

On to some Pics

This tent is housing the next gen of Roxi, ALF, and my chili crosses. All in @Biotabs F69 starter kit soil amendments.

Back row.

Here we are with Plant [HASHTAG]#3[/HASHTAG] offspring. Thes are 2 females that came out of the 4 seed germ test. 3 Plants up and 2 were female.

As you can see the F2 are showing variation between each other, but some one looks like momma....

This one has some serious Kush structure... @Northern Grower penny for your thoughts, as you are quite the kush guy.

So this gal i finally got a smell pin pointed, was messing with me as i knew the smell but couldnt get my finger on it. Until i watered this evening and it came out strong. She smells of axle grease, with a sweet undertone. Not used old grease but fresh after you crack the aluminum seal on the tub.

:pass:
synthetic or conventional :funny:

what size are these pots again?

LOL Conventional and that petrol undertone is strong in there. Not fuel like, no gas, no kerosene , or diesel just heavy grease.

These are hydrofarm's 5x5x7 pot. They have a nice drop to them and i can fit 25 of them in a 3x3 tent. As you can see they dont effect my plant size:d5:

These gals just showed sex.

Daym, what a smell! Sure wish I could do that, i barely get past citrus. Beautiful gal going there bud.
Lol agreed... I usually go with it smells like weed or a nice citrus smell/taste going. I am the worst with smells.

Nice grow FD, really beautiful plants! Don't forget to wash your hands... use this for the grease! : P
