I agree, no nutes needed yet for awhile. Also, be careful with watering. Too much water can also cause the yellowing of those young leaves.

As to what lights to use, you mentioned that heat is an issue, so HPS are not a good choice as they generate a lot of heat. Then it comes down to how much money you want to spend. You best options would probably be LEDs, T5 fluorescents or CFLs. But first, how big of a grow area are you going to create? Will it be an enclosed area?

So you think this will move enough air to keep the fresh float in over them shiny little leaves? And what is wind burn?

Your little space there doesn't look enclosed, so air flow should be sufficient with the fan and set-up I see. Also, since it's not enclosed (in the pic), there's no danger of wind burn if the fan is not blowing directly on the plant. :peace:

C'mon barbie, let's go party.. ya ya ya...

1. No nutes in Ocean Forest until week 4. Only sort of nutrient feeding the plant should receive before this time is 1/4 strength root drenches (Myco Herd, Kangaroots, Microbe Brew, etc.). Remember.. NO NUTES!

2. Get higher watt bulbs if possible, more wattage the better.. how far are the bulbs from the plant at this time?

3. CFLs do NOT generate a lot of heat - so your watering schedule will be less often, where with a HPS I water every 2-3 days, you'll be watering every 3-4, possibly 5 days. Water until there's run off, don't water again until the plant needs it - right after you water, pick the plant up a few times, get to know your "fully watered weight"

4. Plant looks to be stunted by about a week, lay off it a bit and it'll bounce back - let it dry up (not completely) keep it ventilated (plants love air) and water after it's ready! Give it about a week to bounce back.

5. Last but not least, invest in a digital PH tester - Milwauke ones can be had for about 20 bucks. Get that and some calibration solution. 7.01 solution - will run you <$30 total. PH swings can cause the yellowing of the leaves as well.

This area is enclosed everywhere except the top (about 5 feet of "up") and then it is open on all sides for a few inches before the celling starts. Heat isn't an issue yet- but I imagine it will be if I get something hot. I won't grow more than three plants. I think that I'll have a perfect setup when I get a good light.

Again I ask, what size is the area? What are the dimensions?

Okay, that limits your options a bit. I would look at LEDs or CFLs. LEDs are more expensive but do save on electricity and replacement bulbs, plus they run pretty cool, only raising the ambient temperature about 5 degrees. CFLs would probably work good but will give off a little more heat.

You mentioned that your area is open at the top. Have you given thought as to how you're going to deal with the odor? Usually indoor setups like yours are sealed with air intake and exhaust. A carbon filter is used on the exhaust side to remove the odors.

I was planning on claiming that I take fat rips in the bathroom they're in. If it gets real bad I heard I can get an ionizer that works pretty well. I don't live in a warm state, so the area will be around 65 degrees naturally.
