New Grower My first grow

Journal Day 31
31 and 38 days old

Getting crowded in here and I have some leaf questions for you fine folks. I’ve been doing some defol on bottom branches that I feel will be more liabilities than assets. My method has been if I cut a branch then I cut its fan leaf. I still have all fan leaves for the colas, is this necessary or a hindrance? I see many photos from experienced growers here and they all have the bottom 30% or so of the plant stripped bare. Does that need to be done at a certain age to avoid stress? I’m hesitant to cut healthy leafs because I’m assuming the branches they‘re “assigned” to and feed need em around for a long time? Been over 40 years since biology class and trying to Sherlock my way through this is much more fun than google but if memory serves it’s the leaf with the photosynthesis that feeds the flower? Any input much much appreciated.

I set smaller kids on 4 inch boxes to sort of level the canopy temporarily because I had to raise the light again as they were ranging 26-30”. I had to remove pullies for now and light is now 72” off the ground and 36” away from plants that are stretching (if they’re on the floor). Its easy for me to raise the plants as needed and worrying about being 20” away soon is no fun.

Weeks 4 and 5 of feed schedule. It’s been a couple weeks now since I decided to stop using CalMag and ArmorSi and go with a supplement free diet of just the GH Micro Flo and Bloom mix and they haven’t missed a step so we’ll see how that goes. I can also only guess they’re happier not drinking chlorine/fluoride anymore.

So far my Sherlock guessing has been good but I‘m entering some crucial phases for a newbie and as I’ve said I’m operating purely by common sense and studying my plant which have led to a plan of LITFA thus far. No problem continuing that but I’m guessing some labor is on the horizon so advice is appreciated. Thanks again growfriends! Peace

Journal Day 34
34 and 41 days old

So far so good. I’m removing small shoots deep under the canopy here and there but not too much. Feels like I can’t do much but tuck leaves while they fight for the light. I think I’m only going to do 4 plants next time. Everyone seems happy, perky, and 100% green. Happy growing! Peace

Ah! Yes! It's gone so well you're out of space! hahahah. I remember thinking at the beginning you had a lot of pots in there. Perhaps hedging your bets on one or two not turning out but, you've gone and hit a home run on them. Fantastic grow so far. I'm very happy for you.

I hope you have some good air circulation in there? Just wait until they are all in heavy late flowering.....

Thanks SO much. I have two 6 inch fans oscillating one high and one low and one at top blowing on driver but also circulating air. My third fan will be going floor level also later today.

Journal Day 36
36 and 43 days old

Standing room only. There’s so many bud sites that have nice exposure that soon I’m going to begin removing a lot of lower growth. I think it’s probably more necessary to keep airflow good down low than worry about losing an ounce or two overall. Maybe more but I have to think I’ll be happy with what I see currently exposed. I’ll do it slowly hoping not to piss them off. This post will have a lot of pics for my future reference to leaf layers and stretching. I never did a strong lst after topping because I sensed early there wouldn’t be room for 6 wide plants. Good thing apparently.

Today start week 6 and 7 feed schedules. Still no CalMag or ArmorSi and no signs of deficiencies yet. Can’t see myself ever growing in soil because it’s just too easy in coco. Maybe I’m missing out I don’t know but never worrying about over/under watering and nute amounts suits me well.

Light at top of tent on 100%…all plants on the floor now and range 36-40” away which is giving me 42-45 DLI (6-700 ppfd) around the tent. Must be a Goldilocks Zone because these kids are and always have been healthy. Whether they’re living their best life or not, I have no idea yet. That’s why I post here instead of a notebook, in hopes of advice along the way. Happy growing! Peace

There all looking great man! No signs of tip burn or major leaf stress. Just keep an eye on humidity with all of that going on in there.
Thanks pal and yes the humidity gets up to 77 with lights out even with dehumidifier going. I counter that with the built in AC on low and it gets down to 65ish. Currently DIY rigging a small duct to the AC vent to get the air directly in.

Ya, VPD is going to be tough to maintain in the tent during summer and on feed days. That might be why there are some crinkled leaf tips. Seams like your on the right track, just need to sort it out.

Journal Day 42
42 and 49 days old

Everything seems to be going ok for a crowded tent. I’ve clipped some shoots that were real skinny and underdeveloped and leaf tucking as well as just cutting some leaf tips for air and light. Other than that I’m watering every day about 4 hours after they wake up and they take care of the rest. I think the feed schedule is approved for future runs because I’ve yet to see a yellow spot or anything not caused by my splashing nute water on a leaf here and there.

Crazy growth, young Owl Pellet is tallest in the room and the plant formerly known as Grappa the Slowpoke is right behind her lol. 2 older girls Strawberry Nuggets x Skywalker x Samsquanch are forming some pretty buds. That’s it for now happy growing! Peace
