Journal Day 31
31 and 38 days old
Getting crowded in here and I have some leaf questions for you fine folks. I’ve been doing some defol on bottom branches that I feel will be more liabilities than assets. My method has been if I cut a branch then I cut its fan leaf. I still have all fan leaves for the colas, is this necessary or a hindrance? I see many photos from experienced growers here and they all have the bottom 30% or so of the plant stripped bare. Does that need to be done at a certain age to avoid stress? I’m hesitant to cut healthy leafs because I’m assuming the branches they‘re “assigned” to and feed need em around for a long time? Been over 40 years since biology class and trying to Sherlock my way through this is much more fun than google but if memory serves it’s the leaf with the photosynthesis that feeds the flower? Any input much much appreciated.
I set smaller kids on 4 inch boxes to sort of level the canopy temporarily because I had to raise the light again as they were ranging 26-30”. I had to remove pullies for now and light is now 72” off the ground and 36” away from plants that are stretching (if they’re on the floor). Its easy for me to raise the plants as needed and worrying about being 20” away soon is no fun.
Weeks 4 and 5 of feed schedule. It’s been a couple weeks now since I decided to stop using CalMag and ArmorSi and go with a supplement free diet of just the GH Micro Flo and Bloom mix and they haven’t missed a step so we’ll see how that goes. I can also only guess they’re happier not drinking chlorine/fluoride anymore.
So far my Sherlock guessing has been good but I‘m entering some crucial phases for a newbie and as I’ve said I’m operating purely by common sense and studying my plant which have led to a plan of LITFA thus far. No problem continuing that but I’m guessing some labor is on the horizon so advice is appreciated. Thanks again growfriends! Peace
