I’m really going to try to take your advice and not fuck with them too much. :)
That is called a healthy dose of LITFA :haha: Lots of new growers kill their plants with kindness. I on the other hand may be a bit complacent from time to time.

LOL.

With so much talk of newcomers having a tendency to over-water, @Mañ'O'Green, I think I’ve become paranoid about watering!

I think the soil in my 3-gallon pot, with my sprouted purple punch seedling, will be ready fir water tomorrow. I read your post on another thread about watering fully when watering at all. You would also suggest this at this point, when I have just a tiny little baby standing up, yes? If she’s ready for water tomorrow, I should try to water just to runoff, even at this stage? Any other advice fir the first watering that follows the sprout?

It feels like the first time I took my first born child out into public.:baby:

Why my phone always corrects “for” to “fir” I don’t know. I need to override that.

@Tom Bombadil yes and no. TLS would not be as much a problem as a salt grow for sure but you still have the potential for a soggy bottom. The real trick to TLS is to water without run-off but that is easier said than done. Try using some Yucca Powder in your water. It is a natural surfactant and feeds some microbes as well. It will help re-wet any dry pockets in the soil. If the water wants to run out the sides of the fabric pot you have water channeling going on. You may need to water slower so you have more capillary action going on to re-wet the pot.

It is not a good idea to bottom water soil. There will be a level inside the pot that the salts will precipitate out even though the water may wick to the top. This can happen in all substrates. The effects can be mitigated by regular top watering to rinse the salts out but why do it in the first place.
Thanks MOG does the same hold true re. salts for organic nutes like biobizz fishmix and bloom? I've been sold on bottom watering just from a famous Dutch dude who swears by it, I don't actually remember his justification for it

Its easy to figure out once you have some roots and you know the weight of the pot dry vs wet.

Watering in a ring around the pot will encourage the roots to search for the water rather than just watering where the plant herself is (i didn't do this but i didn't know any better)

Sure give her water tomorrow and then watch what the soil looks like, don't let it get to dry at the seedling stage and keep RH up 70% or so

I’m feeling good about my conditions.

Here’s where I get confused, though. If I only water in a ring around my seedling, then the rest of my soil is going to dry out. I don’t want it to become hydrophobic.

Zero, did you saturate all of your soil before planting?

i think they mean water outward then inward pouring in a ring.
Me personally i did not do that until i was around 1 week into it, i poured a ring on the outer ring and went inwards and yes i did saturate it all lol I'm OCD and before planting yep i got it all wet just in case it wanted it

My t mobile switched my voice mail to Spanish and I'm too lazy to call them to switch it back.

Always water the entire pot. You are watering the microbes to keep them alive even in hydro. You must keep the substrate moist.

This is pseudo-organic IMPO. I don't care who swears by it I swear at it. But learn for yourself!

How many times do I have to explain that a cannabis plant tap root can grow 9 inches in three days. The laterals are not far behind. Roots will not grow into dry media and if they hit dry spots and have to change direction or stop you will be stunting the plant.

Thanks! Sorry to make you repeat yourself. I started to doubt myself a bit.
