It’s Day 11 and she’s hurting a bit.

For starters, I think I might be under watering. I may have let her dry too much. Concerned about the soil being hydrophobic, so when I watered her this morning I went very slowly and thoroughly. Her last watering was four days ago, and she’s in a three-gallon cloth pot. Maybe that’s too long to wait for FFOF cut with Light Warrior in a pot this size.

I watered her this morning with a mix of distilled and dechlorinated tap at 6.5 PH. (I calibrated my Apera meter first.) At first her runoff measured 3.2! I watered to a bit more runoff and it was 5.3. Tested again after a bit more runoff had accumulated and it was 5.6. I dumped that water and when I got a bit more, it tested at 5.8, and that’s where it settled. I watered to more runoff today than normal, because I wanted to see if the PH would increase. Normally I try to water to minimal runoff.

I think I really want to see runoff of 6.4. Wondering if I should basically do a flush with 6.5 water until I get to 6.4. (Could help cool down the FFOF too?) Or if I should have PHed my water up to higher than 6.5 to try to bring the soil up.

It’s my first real challenge and it’s fun trying to tackle it!

Took the time to do a thorough cleaning of the tent and runoff trays. I figure if she’s gonna be under the weather, she should at least be resting in a spotless room. Onward and (hopefully) upward!
Keep going my friend, we are learning. Maybe try to keep those water droplets off your young leaves, it will act like a magnifying glass and cook it. Not sure what the general consensus is on foliar spraying, I’m still learning.

Also @WildBill says to use some yucca powder to help with hydrophobic soil. I don’t really know how to use it lol but he does for sure
Thanks, I also remember him saying that somewhere. I’m not sure I have that problem though! And I’m not so sure about her looking better. Two days ago she was sturdy and had solid leaves, and was growing quickly, and now she’s drooping and browning and seems to have slowed down. No worries though, I’ll just keep working at it and learning! I suspect (hope) she’ll look better later after getting some 6.5 water.

Thanks! Yep, all fun here for me, and no discouragement whatsoever. And I definitely keep the leaves dry. I noticed those after I took the pic — drops fell from my humidifier when I pulled it out — and dried them off. I don’t spray the leaves at all.

"A little dab'll do ya!" Just sprinkle enough on the top of you water to make some suds on top when ya wisk it in. I whip it up with a bamboo stick. It doesn't take much at all.
BAS has an extraction of the effective material(saponin )....it's always sold out. I use a water soluble powdered yucca by Raw off of Amazon. Get the smallest one. It will last several grows.
You could ferment alfalfa with EM1 and add in to your water as another source of saponin, just not every watering like you can with the yucca. I'm gonna experiment with a foliar fermented alfalfa with EM1 spray on future grows.

Thanks! Do you do this with all of your water, or just when you feel the soil is hydrophobic?

Foliar feeding is a valuable tool that you can use. I used it a LOT in my veggie garden. I've yet to use it indoors in growing canna, but there's no reason it can't be used. Just search on YT for Foliar feeding cannabis.

I use it in my fabric pots as a preventative and top water. It did make a difference in this last grow. I had almost no "blow outs" when top watering and the ones I did, were most likely caused by the fat ass moisture probe I used. It's not gonna hurt if you top water and use every watering. You just don't use much at all in each application. of the yucca..

Thanks! I’ll get some. My wife will be thrilled to see me order something else LOL.

You'll try a lot methods and will eventually figure out what works for you. Mine are in FFHF, about 3 gal. pots. Using megacrop and mykos wp. Water/fert every other day now. 1 wtr/fert, 1 water, 1wtr/mykos. Repeat. Up to 1.75 gal between 5 plants. When I wtr/fert/mykos the 1st 3rd is put in using a spray bottle to totally saturate the surface, wait abit, then I use a turkey baste to dribble in the next 3rd, wait, 30 min. Or so then baste on the last. Rarely get any run off but usually wet my fingers when put against bottom of pots. Labor intensive but I like getting up close and personal with them.
