Violet is much happier today, after her 6.4 drink yesterday. She's standing tall again, looks strong, and her color is better. Greener. (The top pic makes her look less green than she really is.) The early leaves are still a little beat up, but the new growth has been strong since yesterday. She's working on her fourth node, and she has her first five-fingered leaves developing. New leaves from her first node are growing quickly as well. She's on the mend.

The babies are starting to stand up. They were a bit leggier out the gate than Violet was. It may be the light intensity or maybe it's just the strain. I made some light changes today and now have the SP3000 on 75%, with the big girl 13 inches below it and the babies about 17 inches. No significant heat on the leaves so I think this is good for now.

Onward and upward!

Oh yeah she’s rockin now!

I've been thinking about the water I've been using (straight distilled at first, most recently distilled mixed with dechlorinated tap and PHed), and trying to really fine tune what I use going forward. I figure really getting my water right is worth some effort, especially if I can get away from buying any distilled/purified water from the store, wasting a ton of plastic, etc.

I live in a mountainous region and have located a natural spring very close to my house that has been a source of drinking water for local families for decades. I'm going to fill some jugs with it and do some testing. I already have my PH meter and I have a TDS meter coming tomorrow.

In 2016 a person claimed they tested this spring water and it had a TDS reading of 032. Last year, another guy tested and said it showed 058. According to a municipal report, my tap water has a TDS of around 200. I believe distilled is 0 by default? I haven't yet learned exactly what this all means or what my targets should be, but it's next on my list of edjumication. I look forward to the many articles I'll read that don't fully explain it and leave me with more questions.

Basically, when you fertilize, it should have ever thing needed in it, even the micro nutes n minerals so ro or distilled water won't add any extra calcium, magnesium etc. When just watering I use a mix to get the lil extra cal-mag etc. cause I always seem to be lacking. This run I'm using mega crop and it doesn't seem to bother either way. Your results may vary.

I found the spring and it’s only 8 minutes from my door, so that’s rad. I filled six gallons and brought them home to test. 6.8 PH. Pretty good! My tap water is 8.1 and has chlorine in it.

I’ll test with my TDS meter tomorrow to see what reading I get there. If it’s under 100, as I’m expecting, I might try watering with straight spring water on Violet’s next watering to see how she likes it.

I find it very appealing to nourish my girls with water I get directly out of these mountains, especially if it naturally has a good PH. Just hope it’s not carrying or lacking something that’s gonna cause me trouble. Worth a shot as I need a better water solution than buying jugs from the store.

I use rain water from roof runoff. It might have extras in it but I figure it's better than treated water. I find I go through about 6-8 five gal buckets per plant. I temper what I'm going to use in the tent per watering and pH before giving it to the plant.

I always temper in-tent too. I started off not PHing the distilled water I was using — it was 6.2 out of the bottle — but I’m kind of thinking just using straight distilled contributed to my problem over the weekend. I’ve read of others having problems with straight distilled water in organic soil. Mixing it with tap got a good result though and she’s growing like crazy right now.

But 6.8 water out of the mountain a few minutes from my house is interesting. Looking forward to trying it.
