It's DAY 46, and we're well into the 7th week and flowering stage proper! The girls are looking lovely and making me excited!! Thanks to everyone who's commented or responded; it makes me happy to see anyone following along!
Who's ready to see what the next three weeks will bring? To the photos, primitive Earth growers!
First, the group shot (Sugar Black Rose on the left, Massive Midget on the right, as per tradition):
The leaves are greener today, although the foliar feeding has left some unsightly dried, dirty spots on the leaves. I've got a clog in my pump sprayer I need to handle so I can wash the leaves with RO water tomorrow and clean them up. Overall though both plants seemed healthier.
Next, the Sugar Black Rose:
Trichomes are showing up on several of the secondary buds and there's more on the main cola than there were. The main cola is seriously getting dense, I'm so stoked over it! She's got a unique scent about her; I don't know if the Sugar part of her name refers to it, but she does seem to have a tasty, sweet smell about her. Very excited about the Elvis' feedback about this strain's taste and high! I'm glad to see she'll probably be a bountiful harvest at this rate: with three weeks to go her buds are already getting dense and big.
Next, the Massive Midget:
Slow and steady wins the race, it seems. Her secondary sites are blossoming proper, now, and she's put on even more height as we've moved into the week, but nearly all of it appears to be on her secondary branches. The main cola is starting to get the first dusting of Trichomes, but pistil and hair production is really becoming noticeable on her numerous secondary sites. She's a Midget for sure, and it looks like my hopes were right about the Massive end of her name: they're all looking to put on fat buds as the next weeks go by. This could be a great harvest!
So, the leaves were greener today, though some signs of damage persist. It looks like I was right about them being hungry! To help them make it until harvest, I dusted a layer of dry general purpose nutes onto the surface of the soil, then top-dressed over it with some rich, leftover soil from my original batch. It smelled WONDERFULLY earthy, so I'm assuming it's rich with microbial life that will make short work of the nutes and ensure, along with the rich soil itself, that the plants are well fed in the coming days or weeks. I could brew up some more tea if need be, but after top-dressing it was just clean, fresh RO water to try and keep from overdoing it (I had just added biological inoculate over the weekend, so I know it won't need any more either way to digest those nutes).
With lots of clean water and a top-dressing of fertile soil and some nutes I'm guessing they won't need much more feeding at all until chop time, but I'll be watching to be on the safe side; I don't want bud production hurt from being stingy! It could just be confirmation bias, but I swear they've put on a LOT of weight over the weekend from the feeding (but it could just as easily be the timing, now that we've gone from start of week 7 to middle of it). I may add some more diluted molasses between now and then, as people seem to swear by its beneficial effects just before harvest. Either way, they're looking good and I'm looking happy checking in on them! Tomorrow it'll be a good spray-down washing to rinse any dried on tea residue or the like to get those leaves cranking under the lights, then waterings as needed.
