Indoor Moonijuana 2: The Remooning (Delicious Sugar Black Rose & Heavyweight Massive Midget)

It's DAY 46, and we're well into the 7th week and flowering stage proper! The girls are looking lovely and making me excited!! Thanks to everyone who's commented or responded; it makes me happy to see anyone following along!

Who's ready to see what the next three weeks will bring? To the photos, primitive Earth growers!

First, the group shot (Sugar Black Rose on the left, Massive Midget on the right, as per tradition):

The leaves are greener today, although the foliar feeding has left some unsightly dried, dirty spots on the leaves. I've got a clog in my pump sprayer I need to handle so I can wash the leaves with RO water tomorrow and clean them up. Overall though both plants seemed healthier.

Next, the Sugar Black Rose:

Trichomes are showing up on several of the secondary buds and there's more on the main cola than there were. The main cola is seriously getting dense, I'm so stoked over it! She's got a unique scent about her; I don't know if the Sugar part of her name refers to it, but she does seem to have a tasty, sweet smell about her. Very excited about the Elvis' feedback about this strain's taste and high! I'm glad to see she'll probably be a bountiful harvest at this rate: with three weeks to go her buds are already getting dense and big.

Next, the Massive Midget:
oGRBPBm.jpg

Slow and steady wins the race, it seems. Her secondary sites are blossoming proper, now, and she's put on even more height as we've moved into the week, but nearly all of it appears to be on her secondary branches. The main cola is starting to get the first dusting of Trichomes, but pistil and hair production is really becoming noticeable on her numerous secondary sites. She's a Midget for sure, and it looks like my hopes were right about the Massive end of her name: they're all looking to put on fat buds as the next weeks go by. This could be a great harvest!

So, the leaves were greener today, though some signs of damage persist. It looks like I was right about them being hungry! To help them make it until harvest, I dusted a layer of dry general purpose nutes onto the surface of the soil, then top-dressed over it with some rich, leftover soil from my original batch. It smelled WONDERFULLY earthy, so I'm assuming it's rich with microbial life that will make short work of the nutes and ensure, along with the rich soil itself, that the plants are well fed in the coming days or weeks. I could brew up some more tea if need be, but after top-dressing it was just clean, fresh RO water to try and keep from overdoing it (I had just added biological inoculate over the weekend, so I know it won't need any more either way to digest those nutes).

With lots of clean water and a top-dressing of fertile soil and some nutes I'm guessing they won't need much more feeding at all until chop time, but I'll be watching to be on the safe side; I don't want bud production hurt from being stingy! It could just be confirmation bias, but I swear they've put on a LOT of weight over the weekend from the feeding (but it could just as easily be the timing, now that we've gone from start of week 7 to middle of it). I may add some more diluted molasses between now and then, as people seem to swear by its beneficial effects just before harvest. Either way, they're looking good and I'm looking happy checking in on them! Tomorrow it'll be a good spray-down washing to rinse any dried on tea residue or the like to get those leaves cranking under the lights, then waterings as needed.

Not much change today; the leaves look richer and greener, and after a nice rinsing with RO water from the sprayer the plants look even better and healthier.

My only concern is that some of the pistils have turned dark from the teas being sprayed; I'm hoping it doesn't impact the buds development or the finished product.

Hello, everyone! Welcome to DAY 53! We're almost all the way through with week 8, and the weight is coming on nicely on both plants. The feeding last week fixed nearly all the issues plaguing the plants (as you'll see in a moment), but I've got one nagging problem that I posted about in the infirmary. Here's the link if you want to take a look and help me out: https://www.autoflower.org/index.php?threads/rusty-colored-leaves-deficiency-or-fungi.46894/

Anyway, this one is a bit heavier on pics, so on to the ladies! Firstly, the group photo (SBR on the left, MM on the right):
JkRxKRK.jpg

As you can see, they are MUCH greener and lush now that the feedings have had a chance to really do their stuff. The slight brownish areas are the signs of deficiency I mentioned; it's worth noting that it hasn't plagued every inch of the grow, but it's noticeable and frequent enough after this many days of them feeding and getting good and green that I want it handled. We're deep into Flowering, and with only a couple weeks to go this is the time for weight to get put on! This is no time for disease, pests, or hunger to show up and ruin the last push for the harvest!

Next, the Sugar Black Rose (minus her main cola):
C9nGEPE.jpg

And, next, the main cola from the Sugar Black Rose:
MEe9cSX.jpg

As you can see, she's getting frosty in short order. The main cola is fat and dense and her secondary branches are filling out nicely. Nearly every bud site has trichomes sparkling away when I hit her with the flash, and most of them have added orange hairs to the white pistils. It's looking VERY promising to me.

Finally, the Massive Midget:

And, a close up of her main cola:
K2v8d7r.jpg

Her various bud sites are starting to get hair and put on some weight, and just now her main cola is starting to show trichomes. She's behind the Sugar Black Rose, but she's earned her name something fierce: she's noticeably bigger and bushier than the Sugar Black Rose (which has been the bigger of the two up until now). Assuming she continues to fatten and frost up over the next couple weeks, she'll be a behemoth that might easily outweigh her pot-mate.

Based on how everything is looking, I'm still shooting for a 75-80 day harvest, maybe longer on the Massive Midget depending on how she does. Since I'm set on a single plant next grow, I'm going with a Blue Dream and I'll be combining a SCROG screen with some FIMing to really maximize her output. I'm betting I can get a monster from a sativa-dominant strain that's trained and trimmed in this box, but only time will tell. We're still nearly a month away from even planting the seed for that grow!

Hello everyone. Welcome back to DAY 56! The ladies are looking great after some serious feeding on the already mixed-in nutes, some added bone meal, and a healthy watering yesterday with molasses. The discoloration issues plaguing this grow of late already appear to be on their way out, so let's get to the girls!

Firstly, the group photo (Sugar Black Rose on the left, Massive Midget on the right):

They're looking good and getting frostier by the day; you can see that, overall, they're lush and green once again. Both plants are doing very well! Next, the Sugar Black Rose. First, a side shot:

And another:

As you can see, the sites on the SBR are getting frosty, hairy, and she smells like a dream. It's almost too much to bear; I get a whiff of her, see those buds sparkling under my camera, and I want to chop and smoke her NOW. Nothing gives you the urge to light up like a sexy lady under your care, am I right veterans??

Next, a look at the Massive Midget:

And a good look at her main cola:
1UgV3qI.jpg

She's getting frosty all over, though it's a long way from being encrusted, and her buds are swelling nicely. Let no one doubt this plant has earned it's namesake: though it's taken longer to reach this point than the SBR, she's making up for lost time handily and I'll wager it's one hell of a harvest I get from her!

It's exciting getting this close to the finish line. I want her to do well, but I don't want to overfeed either. I'll see how they look tomorrow, but if it seems like they could go for a while without more food I'll wait until Monday. At the rate the SBR is going I wonder if she'll need early chopping, but I refuse to do so until her leaves make it abundantly clear she's done all she can. For now, every time I open the box the buds are fatter, hairier, and frostier, so there's no rush as far as I'm concerned.

Hello, hello! Welcome back Earthlings for DAY 61 of the second moonijuana grow! No time for words, you're here for the ladies of course! Here's the group photo (SBR on the left, MM on the right):

Next, a closer look at the Sugar Black Rose and two of her tastiest colas. The whole plant:
qQPQ7LX.jpg

And the colas (main first, followed by a tasty secondary):
QCMMmRh.jpg

D8GZFJx.jpg

The first picture tells the story best: she's getting VERY frosty and all her colas are dense with hairy, frosty buds. She's looking amazingly tasty! The cola photos don't really do the size justice, but it's hard to capture them in a way that does. The main cola is super fat: about half an inch taller than a bic lighter, but is about as thick as four or five of them duct-taped together in a bundle! Obviously she's not going to topple any records for yields, but I say not bad for a plant that is barely a foot tall.

Next, the Massive Midget whole plant:

and the main cola:
FOmtmMI.jpg

The Massive Midget is plodding along towards the finish. ALL of her branches are getting frostier, but bulk hasn't quite shown up yet. It's early yet, and she's still greener and stronger than her container mate, so I'm betting by harvest she'll have swollen up nicely. Her biggest colas have orange hairs, but most of her colas are still in the early-looking parts of flowering: sugar leaves starting to sparkle, white pistil hairs showing up in spiky coronas, and starting to get stinky. She's also shedded a LOT of lower leaves due to lack of light; a side effect of her various stems coming into flower and swelling up enough to block out the light from the LED to the lower levels. I had to gently move aside her stems to sweep out the various dead fan leaves to ensure they wouldn't stifle the healthy growth, and was astonished at how dense she's become.

I'd planned to keep both plants to 77 days, but I'm probably going to chop the SBR before then at this rate. Despite feedings, waterings, and a LOT of TLC to make sure they're healthy, her leaves are staying more yellow-green than the lusher, verdant green of the MM. The canopy is dense, too; both plants have shed pretty much everything below the canopy (the SBR did a few weeks back, but the MM has started recently and mostly finished over the weekend), to the point the box is noticeable dimmed below the canopy level. Smell is pungent; not as bad as I'd hoped, but strong. I'm very glad I saved the ONA for later on this grow; I still smell it faintly sometimes when I walk in the room (whereas last grow I never did until I opened the box).

I'm concerned about the SBR finishing before the MM; it's going to screw up my timing for sure if I want to plant seedlings IMMEDIATELY after chopping. Oh well, the blue dream is next. My plan is to plant it on the side, and as it grows vertically just keep weaving it over and across, and FIM it as it goes so once it's down I'll have a hell of a strong canopy again. It'll be interesting to see how it goes. Also, the heater was apparently a BIG part of the bleaching in my last grow; some of these colas are within an inch of the light and have shown ZERO damage from that proximity. The downside is, being so close to it I can't foliar feed or mist the leaves and put the plant back with damp leaves: the lights are so close and intense that the water left on the leaves acts as a lens and burns holes through the leaves, or damages it like spider mites. I've checked, no I don't have any :) But it LOOKS just like it. About gave me a heart attack the first day I saw those white specks and holes; I'd freaked that I brought in pests from my patio garden and ruined my grow!

Just a quick no pic update today; chop day may be coming for the Sugar Black Rose tomorrow. She's getting awfully yellow in the leaves. If she doesn't perk up after being watered today, I'll chop her tomorrow and start drying over the weekend.

Man, oh man...you are going to love that SBR! She brings tasty buds and mellow moods [emoji39] SBR is my bro's personal favorite. Her sweet aroma is intoxicating and her buzz is peaceful.

All the best as the end nears [emoji106] Stoked for harvest pics and smoke reports!

Hello everyone! Welcome one and all to DAY 64! We're going into week 10, so it's very nearly harvest time. Let's see the ladies and then get to talking! As always, the Sugar Black Rose is on the left, the Massive Midget on the right:

Next, the Sugar Black Rose:

And her main cola:
jiSwN6N.jpg

Damn, she looks great, doesn't she? Her cola sites are fat and frosty, and just covered in sexy orange hairs. It's funny how perspective changes so fast: back just 8 months ago when my only choice was cartel brick-weed, me and my friends would go ballistic if we found colorful hairs or a frosty nug buried within. Now, I find myself a little sad it isn't frost-IER or sexier or measuring up to the titans of growing on this site! Last year I'd have lost my shit if you gave me even an eighth of this. Now I'm betting at LEAST a zip off this plant!

Next, the Massive Midget:
jDtEjYg.jpg

And her main cola:
4pLzUU9.jpg

Steady as she goes, it seems. It's hard to tell from the pic alone, but that main cola is fattening up finally. I was getting nervous for a bit that her colas would be spindly and light, though frosty. They're gradually putting on weight though, and CLEARLY a darker green than her trough-mate. She's got a solid week or so left for sure, and I'm betting she'll truly earn her name by then. Lots of orange hairs and a good amount of sugary frost is visible on all her bud sites, so she's shaping up to be a potent one regardless of yield.

So, we're coming close to the end on this one. Second grow and I've already learned so, so much from everyone here, so big shout outs coming. As I said at the start of this post, we're through week 9 and on to week 10, so another week or two tops before they need to come down. It's clear that despite the fresh water the SBR is nearing the end of her life cycle; the MM has some new, dark green fan leaves here and there (only a couple. but they're there) which shows I've got the nute issues and such handled. This yellowing isn't drought or deficiency, it's end of life.

I'm thinking I'll let her fatten up over the weekend (she's got a couple days left I think; enough green leaves to last) then chop her first thing Monday morning. The MM I'm hoping to keep alive until at least day 70, maybe even push for the full 11 weeks. Either way, once she looks like this I'll start germing the next seed, then hopefully I can plant a seedling immediately after chopping. This is a good thing in the long run though; the SBR should be ready for the cure jars just as the MM comes down, and by the time my MM finishes drying I'll have enough of a cure to start smoking. I figure I'm a month at the longest away from lighting up, which is a welcome relief from the weeks of sobriety.

I'm revising my yield estimates based on growth, so let's see how accurate I am once all is said and done. I'm guessing I'll pull about 35-40 grams from the SBR (it's a big yield, but her colas are fat and heavy, so I'm betting she'll dry up over an ounce for sure). The MM is still up in the air, but I'm convinced she'll yield a minimum of 30g: she's got more branches to fatten up, she's got at least another week to grow, and the SBR will stop hogging the nutes in a day or two, letting her feast like a king in her final hours. I need 55-60 grams total for me to confidently state that I have definitively broken the 1 gpw barrier (and dare I hope for 100g to break 2?).

Tune in Monday for the exciting conclusion to the SBR and a pre-dry wiegh in!
