Indoor Moonijuana 2: The Remooning (Delicious Sugar Black Rose & Heavyweight Massive Midget)

Well, with an endorsement from The King, this may just be a repeat grower in my box too!

Whoa, looking amazing TT! Just finished reading your last journal and I gotta say I'm really impressed! I'm still dreaming about the day I pull more than 1 gpw and you did it on the first try, you... extraterrestrial greenthumb, you! :cuss:

Now let's see you break the 2 gpw barrier this time around. :pop:

Hey all! Had a busy weekend, and the plants enjoyed their time unmolested in the growing chamber. Today marks DAY 25. Let's take a look at the lovely lunar ladies, shall we? Firstly, the Sugar Black Rose:

And a second shot:

She's responding VERY well to training; the stems are flexible, and the process has started multiple baby colas. Currently I'm just bending them enough to be parallel to the bars, but as they grow bigger I'll tuck them under and weave them into a proper SCROG. She's looking healthy, green, and strong.

Next, the Massive Midget:

Looking good and healthy; from the top down she doesn't look too special, and her main cola isn't really coming in like the SBR beside her, but a look from the side like this reveals how lush she's getting, with several side branches. Here's hoping she stretches a bit more, because as it stands she's barely tickling the screen.

Finally, a side by side top-down shot for comparison (SBR on the left, MM on the right):

So, looking healthy and happy, and I'm very excited about the potential for this grow. The Sugar Black Rose has been at the screen for a couple days now and shows no signs of light damage. Whether it was the heating lamp or the the distance of the light, the good news is that it appears the plants will thrive at screen height and there won't be any weight lost from damage to the top this time!

Thanks so much for the praise! I believe the BlackStar UFO I have is 65 watt true-draw, but even so I didn't quite pull 65 grams total from my last grow (I believe the total dry weight was 45 grams). I think I'd have come very close if it wasn't for the damage, but I don't think I technically or officially have hit the 1 gpw barrier just yet. I'll give it my best to shoot past it this time though!

I actually thought it was 65W at first but I measured mine at about 35W. On the unit it says max. 50W which checks out. I also contacted Gotham Hydro about the readings I got and while they didn't confirm the true draw (probably thinking I'd demand a refund) apparently around 35 correct. No complaints here since the light seems perfect for my grow cab.

Oh, and I reckon midget has another week or two of growth left whereas the rose is nearing the end of stretch by the look of those preflowers. Those are just some semi-inexperienced guesstimations, though. Looking great!

Damn, that seems kind of low for a "100W" LED. I'll never get used to how odd the actual draw can be compared to what's advertised.

My thoughts exactly. Although as I said the light performs fantastically for me and anything more powerful would be an overkill. And hey, HS1 is also only 75W and grows 3-6 oz monsters in the right hands. It's way more sophisticated, sure, but shows that wattage isn't the whole story with LEDs.

I'm not overly concerned, really. I get that wattage never has been a good indicator of an LED's power or utility, and it's more of a relic from traditional lighting being so tightly connected to it as a measure. It's just not that simple to compare LED lights to other lights in the first place.

Of course, the good news (for me), if it's 35W I did in fact break 1 gpw, and even if it was at the max of 50W, I probably still would have if it hadn't been for damaging my plants (I threw out the damaged buds rather than drying or weighing them, so I can't say for sure what it would have been in usable product).

Just a quick update: a peek into the box today reveals that we're not through the stretch period yet! Just from yesterday the Massive Midget has grown a solid 3/4", and the Sugar Black Rose, well, see for yourself.

Today's pic (Sugar Black Rose on the left, Massive Midget on the right):

The Massive Midget is pushing her way past the screen, and she's pushing a few side branches up and out as well. She's still too bushy and dense to really train just yet, but I'm thinking one I start training the main stem as it hits the screen her side branches will really take off.

The S.B.R., though, is a thing of beauty. Already she's got several gorgeous baby colas all over the screen, lots of growth going on, and she's truly exploding as we head into week 5. It's going to get crowded on her side, and she may have to squeeze into the Massive Midget's half of the screen if she doesn't slow down on her own. Currently I'm bending the stems and redirecting them in lazy arcs to help limit upward growth, but at this rate she'll be a woven tangle under the canopy, as some are starting to grow past each other when they're bent down.

My next grow was going to be a Blue Dream with another, but I'm seriously considering growing it solo or maybe just with a sour crack; I think a strong, Sativa-dominant strain could easily be trained to take up the entire screen and get a massive harvest.

Today is DAY 29. Things are looking really, really good! Here's a picture for reference (Sugar Black Rose on the left, Massive Midget on the right):

There's numerous little colas showing up everywhere on the Sugar Black Rose; I counted 10 aside from the main cola itself today, with more budding sites showing promise. I'm salivating at the thought of all those swelling up during flowering. I'd like to keep training her, see if I can get between a dozen to 15 different cola sites. This has the potential to be one hell of a strong grow.

As for the Massive Midget, she's earning her name little by little. Three side branches have come far out and are showing the beginning signs of their own colas, and the main branch has pushed past the screen enough that I could bend her slightly under a bar to encourage more training. She's a squat, dense one but I think I can get her to throw up more branches now that I can start bending the main cola and forcing it to think it's falling.

The success of my training the S.B.R. in this grow will go a long way to determining my next one. I really, really miss smoking Blue Dream (the strain that made me fall in love with weed), so if I can get a good harvest from this one I'll probably do a solo Blue Dream next run and just put everything I can into pushing her to the limit. I think having the planter to herself along with a proper screen will do the trick; I've got over two gallons capacity in this thing, so it's a surprisingly hefty amount of soil for a micro grow.
