Grow Mediums Mom's AutoCob, AutoPot, AutoMazar, MegaCrop Grow :-)

It's pretty simple and much less scary than the early germination part. When I start in cups, I transplant directly into the final pots (with the same coco/perlite mix) that have been pre-charged (watered) with feed. From there, unless you have high perlite content, you may not need to water for several weeks, until the pots get light(er) or it's time to turn on the automatic feeding.

With the cups, you can either dump the medium out and hope the medium and root ball do not fall apart (usually works for me); or safer, carefully cut the bottom off of the cup then plant the cup (and you can cut holes in the sides too).

Simply do normal drain-to-waste, top-feed with a some good amount of run-off with diluted feed, such as 1/4 your normal full strength, best with Bt bacteria to kill any insect larvae, maybe with a root stimulator product. From there, in AutoPots if needed (depending on lot of factors; I've gone from germination to turning on the AutoPots without any watering), just manually top or bottom feed as needed until you start using the AutoValves and have the full setup going.

Wow, thank you hon!!....I am afraid more of how to water the pots before and after transplant than the actual transplant itself ....I have some good insect killer and some root stimulator here, along with my mega crop, which I will never be without again!....

So you are saying that you have pre-charged your pots, planted a seed, and not watered again until you turned the res on? It must have been not that warm in the tent or whatever if your pot held onto water that long, yes? Good Lord, I would damp them off and they would be dead in a few days..ha ha!!!

I start my seeds in small pots for the first 10-14 days I then pot them into my pre watered autopot and don't want them again for at least a week to allow the roots to search. Then after they have a decent tea top feed at week 3 the system goes on :)

Thanks Ivean!...these little ladies are doing so good. How much do you pre water your aupot with, about a liter?....

DAY 9
TEMP: 79 HUMIDITY: 71

Not much to report just that ladies are getting bigger!
:woohoo:

Gave them their morning dunk this morning of 1.5g/G Mega Crop and also added a little Recharge into the mix. I have the feeling I will be dunking 2x a day now as they are requiring more water.

I have ordered some 1g nursery pots, and may just transplant the ladies into these and keep up the weighing/dunking water method for a while longer. I enjoy it very much, and ladies seem to also!

Maybe they will just stay in the 1g pots and I can put them on the res, or maybe I will transplant later to the 3g autopots...I'm not sure. I don't have to decide right now. I am just so happy they are doing well and I am enjoying this. I think enjoying it is the most important part.

:yay:

Yes, general consensus is to just take the plunge and plant the babies in their new home around 10 days old.
I just have to figure out how to water the pots before transplant. just a little? water rill runoff? I have a habit of way overwatering so I want to be careful. I will do some research and just jump in with both feet!
Here is the pioneer of Auto Pots here on AFN.

Water with 1.5 liters to start and then 1 liter a week or as needed. Water them with the 1.5 and lift up the pot. Get a "feel" how heavy it is. Then in 4 - 5 days see if it feels lighter. Hansbricks was a great leader and many of us followed.

They look great. Really great

Straight coco is a terrible medium to use in starter pots is does not stick together whether wet or dry. This is why I use soil to start all plants that will be transplanted. A moist soil rootball does not crumble easily if handled gently. I've never lost a transplant using soil as a starter. And it doesn't matter what you will transplant into, the soil will have no affect on it at all. Plus, when transplanting to coco, that small amount of soil is feeding the seedling while it pushes out roots into the coco. My 7-10 day old transplants usually have a canopy the width of the auto pot by day 14 and are ready to go on the res.

And Yes, Hansbrick was the Father of auto pots on AFN. I saw his grows and knew this was how I wanted to grow!

Tbh I've no idea I make the pots up outside in the back garden and just use a hose :)
I like to water until I see the top of the pot settle. Kinda hard to explain but the perlite floats to the top then i stop :)
Leave them outside to drain off for an hour or so then straight in the tent for the soil to warm up for a day or so before i transplant the seedlings

Yes, a few times I've gone the 10-14 days without watering the germinated plants before turning-on the bottom feeding. When using AutoPots I topped hem off with Hydroton/clay pebbles, which cuts down evaporation; and there are no places for air to enter/exit on the sides or bottom of AutoPots. Small plants don't suck-up all that much water/feed in their first few weeks.

Just keep testing your AutoPots regularly and feed it you think they are actually starting to get too dry (by your standards).
