Grow Mediums Mom's Autocob, Autoflower, Autopot Grow

Hi guys, update DAY 17.
I transplated UNKNOWN lady into her airpot filled with my 12 year old soil! lol. She is doing fantastic. I am still top watering her. no nutes yet for any of the ladies. God, I have to admit...I hate airpots. They are so dirty! I have to hand water so slow or the soil and water shoot out the sides of the container. Thelma and louise are doing fantastic also. I got my new AUTOCOB in the mail (woo hooo! I already want more.) and put it over Thelma. I am not sure how high to have it over her though?? (UPDATE: 24", thank you @BigSm0 ) I also turned on the AUTOPOT watering system with just plain tap water, and turned on Louise's airdome. Been a busy few days for the girls. I decided during all of this it was a good time to clean out their condo also. I vacumed it with my shop vac and gave it a good spray down with some tea tree oil and vinigar. Also put up some new yellow sticky traps. How do I know the AUTOPOTS are "working"?? I see the water down in there....but are they working? are plants drinking?

They are working or else you would see the the ladies droop and wither up.
I do not grow in soil with the AutoPots, I use coco. So I am no help from here. If the plants grow then IMHO keep giving them the water. Good growing Mom.

Grandpa in CO :)

Thanks Grandpa! I just turned on auto cob, airdome, and auto pots last night. When I woke up this morning the ladies were already larger. I see water around each aquavalve (about 1/8 inch ??) , and I will just keep an eye on them. Mommy is so glad we are now past the seedling stage...it seemed to drag on forever. Let the fun begin!
:headbang:

Oh, I have 2 gallons of JUST WATER in the res for now. Should I add anything else like hydro-guard or something?

They will draw water up from the tray with the blue valve in it. As it draws up the they will draw more. So I would say it maybe best to put in 2-3 additional gals. They will use the water. One benefit of the AutoPots is that they require less time to attend and more time to sit with them and hear what they have to say. I would not put anything else in the reserve.
At some point the soil may have all of the nutrients used up and you may have to feed them nutrients. Again other are here who grow with soil and the Autopots. @pop22 I know I have seen some members here who use the soil. Can you lead Mom in that direction, please?

@MassMom from what I've read on others that use the AutoCobs they have their light distance 24"-30" seedling/veg growth and then anywhere from 12"-20" flowering. You'll have to watch the leaves and make adjustments depending what they are showing you. Also with cob lighting you might have to supplement your girls with Calmag.

I've been using Hydroguard in my res at 1/2 strength. I noticed the res smelled funky before I add this. may not need it but it doesn't hurt. Fill that res! don't be afraid! I've got 2 tents with 4 pots each running plain water ( well, for me its RO with cal/mag ) and organic soil. Not my first run either. Organic soil works very well with auto pots!

I too suggest running the around 24" and let the plants grow up to them. Depends on the tolerance of your particular strain how close you can get. I just try to keep them 16-18" in flower.

Sounds like your valves are working just fine. A week from now you'll be amazed!

I already am sweetie, each day is now exciting to see!!! So much better than when they babies, the growth just seemed so darn sloooooooooooooooow...ha ha

Thank you, yes. I talked to BigSmo and he suggested that distance also  How will I know if they need calmag?

I wanted to start out slow, and add a few fresh gallons every few days instead of filling it up and using any chemicals or additives. I will see how fast they drink. Thank you hon, gona keep a mommy eyeball on them, LOL

gotcha :bow:Well, my first grow was with FFOF and I let it go a month, then started to add small amounts of bloom nutes. Im just not sure when to start that process, I am afraid to start to soon and over do it.
