Mephisto Genetics Mark SIP grow Toofless alien and gold glue

Picking up I can definitely do! Those 1st 2 I actually used my 5ml medicine dropper and would add 5ml per wall watering around the outside so pretty sure I was giving em waaaaay too much! Since I have plenty of bottom watering experience should I do same as bigger pots do and only give em water as long as lil rootmaker plant is still sucking it up off water tray? Unfortunately I was alternating that top feed with bottom feed so I have seen how even babies in the rootmakers will still suck water up and quite quickly too and doesn’t take long before they just sit in it not sucking anything up! If I bottom water should I leave em 20min and pull em or should I just water til not sucking up any more water?? My solo cup plants I had been getting a small Tupperware dish and adding 2-3” of water in dish and then letting me sit but never left em full 20min! Is that the target # of min or is it 5 or 25 min doesn’t really matter cuz wont suck up more water than it can hold in the lil pots??
Just. Wanna make sure I get these lil ones started out with best roots possible so I can have some healthy beasts in the earthboxes especially!:thanks:

Watering can be an issue - I agree with @slowandeasy that you MUST pick rootmaker and feel weight ..... I disagree with slow on the bottom watering - after all the earthbox is a bottom water system so no reason you can’t bottom water - trick is to only let them sit in water for about 20 minutes ......

However you water make darn sure you pickup pot and feel weight.
Earthboxes are wicking, but we are talking about seedlings with developing root systems. Bottom soak too much and it is just as bad as top watering at this stage. If u go LIGHTLY it will work great. But picking up and spraying is almost impossible to overwater. Knowing Mark has a tendency to overwater, I suggest using spray bottle. Once comfortable with correct feel for watering amounts, then bottom dunking would be easier to control. And 20 min to soak up the water is 10 min too long IMO at the seedling stage. Plus the water level needs to be low. I bottom dunk my Coco 100% of the time at this stage. But they soak up water intsntly. Letting them sit can allow for over soaking in Soil much easier thsn Coco. But its still better than top watering by hand, it is the easiest to over water if watering from top by hand on fresh seedlings. We want the roots to grow outward and downwards. So that is why bottom dunking is better than top watering seedlings. Peace, slow

Just to make sure I’ve been picking up and spraying couple squirts per 3 side holes (since not nearly 1/2 the spray actually goes inside and doesn’t hit rootmaker and fall back to earth) and then I’ll do couple sprays going around the outside of the pot on the top! It also somewhat helps having hygrometer in there cuz when it dries out the humidity will start dropping! Is a couple squirts per side root hole enough to give it a drink THATS BOTH ENOUGH BUT NOT OVERDOING IT?? Wanna make sure I get this one out the gate with some happy feet! :frog:

Depends on how dry yours get and how much drips back. I hold mine on its side and spray a few times on each side. You will see that you can spray the tops and it soaks in faster thsn top watering, because u are misting it....not adding much at a time. You will get the feel for it, litterally. Picking them hp is key, no matter how you intend to water. Our hands can feel the weight changes quite well. Start with just a couple squirts and you can ALWAYS add more....but you can NEVER take away an overwatering. What is done is done and it takes time to dry out. You will see the thickness of the roots will be much greater if you spray vs top feed. Good luck, slow

As Slow states picking up is key and not too much water in tray if you bottom feed - On the spray bottle just pull trigger slowly and don’t spray outside the pot and for sure don’t get water on the leaves .....

Back in the Clinton Era I dealt and was got so good at feeling the weight setting the bag on the scale was just a formality - take two starter pots and fill with soil - soak one and leave other dry if you need to know what a wet pot and dry pot weight feels - better to underwater than over - you will get it dialed in.

Id put your covers on and tape them up. You want to get moisture under the caps going and keep potential.pests out. Good luck, slow

You mean like this broham?!?

Taped up the slits and left just a small square so stem has room to grow! I don’t mind spending a few bucks and ordering plastic like what u use around the stem but not sure what to get?!? I did have someone from inkbird offer to “sponsor” me! Said sponsor but had to buy the sensors and humidity controller I needed and he got it reimbursed back to my PayPal! Had to figure something to spend it on so ordered 15 extra red junior covers and I have the 2 cores for full size and 4 full size extra covers and those I have here already!

They are basically Panda film bags. Yoir grow store should have some Panda film? I just happen to have a bunch thst I will never use for plants. They suck to grow plants in, but make a good reflective barrier. I just make ax X so your stem grows and put 2 layers in 2 different directions. If you were to gwt pests, your main stems are usually where they prefer to go to first. Im a freak about pests, that is why I never did organics til using SIPs. I have too much to lose and grow in Coco as well. So I dont want bugs. If they cant get in or out....its hard for them to effect your grow. I got those bags on Amazon a long time ago, they seemed to have gone up in price. But many things have lately. I feel mild gouging is occuring places and def no deals. Kroger and Meijer usuall have good deals. I spent $100 and had hardly anything to take home. A month ago we would have had 3x as much food for the same price. You have to wear masks and gloves here now. At least we have food, could be worse. Shelves are empty, but we will survive this. Stay safe bro. Slow
