Luxembourg becomes the "first country in Europe to legalize the production and consumption" of cannabis, reports the Guardian . Adults will be allowed to grow "up to four cannabis plants at home or in their garden," the country's government said on Friday.
The Grand Duchy is thus changing “fundamentally its approach to the consumption and recreational cultivation” of marijuana, being confronted with “the failure of the prohibition of consumption”, notes the British daily.

Cultivation for personal use will be permitted, as will trade in seeds “without any limit on the amount or levels of tetrahydrocannabinol ( THC ), the main psychoactive constituent” of cannabis. Consumers will be able to import or buy seeds in stores or online.

Fight against “the whole illegal chain”
According to the Minister of Justice, this is a “first step” in the government’s response to the “drug problem” . “Cannabis is the most widely used drug and accounts for a large part of illegal trafficking , explains Sam Tanson. She adds :
We want to start by allowing people to grow it in their homes. The idea is that a consumer is not in an illegal situation if he uses cannabis, and that we do not support the entire illegal chain, from production to sale to transport, where there is a lot of suffering. ”
However, the ban on consuming or transporting cannabis in public is maintained, and “the trade in cannabis or its products, with the exception of seeds, for free or for a fee, remains prohibited”, details the British daily. Finally, the possession of up to 3 grams of cannabis will no longer be considered a criminal offense, but a simple offense.

A more permissive law than in the Netherlands
This first step is part of a more fundamental review of the management of cannabis by the Luxembourg State, “intended to keep consumers away from illegal trafficking” . The general framework was decided two years ago by a coalition agreement between the Liberals, the Social Democrats and the Greens.

Luxembourg thus joins Canada , Uruguay , Mexico and eleven American states which have decided not to limit cannabis to strictly medical use and decriminalize its recreational use. In the Netherlands , the European country which has probably “the most relaxed attitude” towards cannabis, “its possession and trade are illegal”, although a “policy of tolerance” exists, which allows the recreational use of being “widely accepted” .

That's fantastic news!!! Legalization is getting closer to home :woohoo1:

I hope things will change in France too.
So ridiculous - politics here are completely misinformed.
In 6 months there will be presidential election - at least one candidate is pro-cannabis... we'll see :smoking:

Zemmour?

Let's hope it comes to one and all. While they are happy to hand out opioid tablets to everyone those same fools think it's a crime to smoke weed. Probably still believe all the propaganda about it turning you into a crazed killer!
Jobs, taxes, exports I mean what is not to like government? They can also claim a win on crime and concentrate on real criminals, open up courts to judge proper criminals. Jeez, maybe even help pay for a few things about here and help people out of poverty.
UK needs decent paying jobs!! Our overheads are expensive and wages are low no wonder the kids are stabbing and murdering each other there is no real opportunities, crime and gangs pays for cars, holidays, watches, £800 quid track suits. Take a job be lucky to afford rent, council tax, car etc and join the working poor. Know what I would be doing if I was 18 again.
