Morning folks! So yesterday was 6 weeks for Blue Mystic.

Here's she is last week.

Again, she is still growing but showing some signs of distress. Some yellowing leaves and what looks like nutrient burn on some of the new growth.

I'm still putting this down to lockout. They've just been getting ph'd water this week and the soil pH is coming down slowly.

@Froot n Fuel I know you said a soil pH of 6.8 is okay but I keep seeing these charts which put the optimum range a bit lower... Going to make 6.5 the target.
ph vs uptake 3.jpg

At a bit of a loss with the feeding at the moment. Because there's been lock out I assume the soil will be nutrient rich. I'm expecting burn from this once the pH drops to optimal range.

Would this thinking be correct?

She is definitely showing signs of either toxicity or deficiency, possibly both! Lol

Cheers,

I tend to pH my stuff to 6.7-6.8 and hope that the soil buffers the ranges either side of it.

aiming for 6.5 is fine! just avoid adding too much acidic levels to achieve it - slowly over time is best! 4.5 sounds like a bit in the harsh side, so keep it pH’d above 6.0 and you should be okay.

do you water them to runoff?

she looks way better so you’re getting there bro

I don' t water till run off. I do agree that 4.5 is harsh but I'm not drenching the pots and the pH seems to be dropping slowly and bouncing back by the morning.

The blue mystic hasn't suffered as much as the NL, so please don't judge on her! Lol

The NL seems to coming down okay, was around 6.6 this morning. But Blue mystic was back up to 7 in places. I'll see how things go. Tempted to give them a feed this weekend if the pH is still in range when I get in tonight.

Cheers,

which soil probe did you end up with in the end?
I think you’ll always see fluctuations in pH in soil, it’s not uncommon for it to drift in my understanding of it and a combo of the buffering properties of soil and pH drift can help ensure you get within the 6.5 -7.0 range

but damn dude I’m still trying to figure it all out too! one of my girls on the first run never moaned once about her 7.5-8.0 waterings. I can only assume my AN pH Perfect feedings we’re correcting everything enough for that particular plant?
the plant I was having problems with that I started pHing everything for never really recovered for me. i’ve since found her root system was very poorly developed and very small compared to the size of the plant above ground...
so am I pHing my stuff for no reason? i dunno...maybe. but the trouble with not pHing is diagnosing problems - if you don’t know for sure what your pH is in the medium, you have to go through a very long and inefficient process of elimination to try and fix them...as I have found out myself. and will find out again if things go south as I don’t have a probe still.

so what I’m saying is, I don’t think you need to sweat the numbers too much so long as they fall consistently within that 6.5-7.0 range the soil should help you along too.

as always take all my stuff as just my experience so far and not as gospel - i managed to get a few plants to harvest but there’s been a good element of luck in there for me!! we all learning

I went with this probe...

It was quite expensive at £44 but that's with next day delivery. Checked with the buffering solutions and it's giving correct readings when submerged in liquid at least!

I've bought a second so that I can have one in each pot at all times for ease. Same one was £24 without next day delivery.

Your first grow sounds very familiar!! Lol

I'm not so sure I'm going to see NL recover from this but live and learn!! I'm keen to get started on the next batch of plants. Hopefully it will be longer than 5 weeks before I start fucking them up!! Lol

Cheers!
