@Frankthetank Remember it is the microbes and soil permeability you are watering not just the plant.

Yes!

I had a pot go hydrophobic. No matter what I did, as soon as I'd water it would run right off, not get absorbed.

I think I finally stuck it in a half full 5 gallon bucket of water and let it sit for a bit, to get it to soak up water.

It’s promix dude….. promix and MC…. We’re not talking about organics. I never have issues with this fabled hydrophobia unless I have rabies. :haha: I let them dry right out, once they’re established. I also water like he’s doing, but after the first few days I’m staying away from the seedling and watering in an ever widening circle around the plant to encourage the roots to search outwards and down.

If I do what you’re saying, I’ll get a small plant with a tiny rootball that never needed to go anywhere to get what it needs…:pass:

They don’t get a saturation until about day 10-15

Ya i gonna back it out the garage here soon and see if i notice anything! Definitely figured it was something like a sensor somewhere because most issues it wouldn’t matter if it was in gear or just revving in park it would do it constantly if say was a plug misfiring or something!

Do you have one of those bluetooth ODB2 things?

I use that an app called Torque to look at all the sensor values.

If you have something like that, I'd look through all the sensor outputs to see if there is one that doesn't make sense, or isn't moving around at all.

Worst case, disconnect your Battery for a while (gotta let the capacitors in the ECU drain all the way) so the ECU relearns, and that may make it through a code which will help you diagnose.

This is exactly how I do it, and I'm only on day 3 so I do the widening circle too just after a few days of course. I just water slowly with a sprayer and never experienced the hydrophobic run off either.
The part you said about a small root ball makes perfect sense!

Just want to interject a few words on the hydrophobic topic. Use a saponin product for that problem. Yucca is a good one. NFTG makes Hygia's Hydration from yucca and it's saved my bacon a few times.
I leave the rest up top you guy. . .

A cannabis tap root can grow 9 inches in three days, are you staying ahead of that possibility? True that is under ideal conditions but isn't that what we strive for? Yes you can get a stunted root system by watering to much to often. Ideally you want the soil to remain at "field capacity" for perfect root penetration. This is a difficult target in a small volume of soil. All substrates have a microbiome even in hydro. Depending on which ProMix you are using they even add Mycorrhizae. You want to keep them alive. Yes you want a "dry down" period between waterings/fertigation to encourage root growth but a root will not grow into dry soil. I believe you will get better results in soil that is not allowed to dry!
