Is your wire underground? Our service drop is a wire from a telephone pole. That was the wire that could not handle the 250 amps.

we have wire underground out here and some other people out here have it run to them off the poles. Just depends when it was installed
and our was when they first started bringing it out here like 20 + years ago

Maybe you can add some breakers and wiring to the existing panel for your needs I'm an ex industrial/cave man
