For years, Palm Beachers helped sponsor neighboring Lake Worths' annual week long shark tournament to sweep the resident man-eaters and man they had them every year. Huge Bulls, Hammerheads, Tigers along with the usual less feared reef sharks. Occasional Whites and makos that were just passing through. When the local dive shops started feeding them in for tourism the powers went ballistic then again when they were protected. No more tournaments.
OMG my grandparents lived in Lake Worth. I love that place and beach. Two years ago when I was there at the beach the lifeguard told me that Bon Jovi was at Benny's the bar on the pier. After leaving the beach and waiting for my wife here he comes and the lifeguard close behind. After I snapped the pic Bon Jovi came over and wished me a Happy New Year. Too cool

It is a beautiful beach. All the little beachside towns have nice beaches and there are 2 reefs that run parallel off most of them.
You never know who you may run into at any time or spot. When the National Inquirer was in Lantana next door, the whole crazy crew would take over the pool at the Palm Beach Hawaiian just south when I was living there while on a job. They would have folks with them that would later show up interviewed in the rag with recognizable names. It was nuts when the fortune-teller had to make the predictions for the year. Everyone in the company had to submit a certain number. They sat around the pool trying to outdo each other and the drunker they got, the more outrageous the predictions, I miss the place.
Some years later when I had 15 seconds of fame, they copied one article into the even crazier sister paper, Weekly World News. I had made it right up there with Elvises alien baby. :rofl::rofl:

I had a dive buddy, that I eventually had to kick aside, had this thing for shatks. He was scared the hell outta them and hated them. We had a few very close encounters with some damn Tigers and it scared the hell outta him. The next outing, he has a damn bangstick in his gear. I told him to leave that in my truck. On the way to the dive spot, he had been talking about the dive and obsessing over the sharks. I just knew he had intent to use it. I just think it could make a simple encounter into something far worse.
Besides, I just don't kill things because I can!

, I just don't kill things because I can!

:d5::cheers::pass:Words to live by. Respect.

Your buddy sounds like Frank Hammett who had a dive shop in Riviera Beach. Hated sharks and proved it for years. He had a running feud with world-renowned conservationist Noreen Rouse. she would give a free dive trip to anyone who turned over a speargun to be retired.

Prawns like fish? YUCK! When I wanted prawns, I went to Turtle Bay when I was on Oahu and cooked them when I got home. They were farm raised and very good. We ate LOTS of fish when I lived in Oahu. Most weeks 5 days outta 7! One, it was great food and it sure helped with the bills. Crazy expensive there! I had lots of places to fish very close. Deep sea fishing was fantastic too.
Mahi Mahi !:drool:

Yup....I nearly puked the first time I got them......brain boom ....looks like a prawn...tastes like an owld raggy fish...pleurk........:yoinks:

I like my seafood fresh - still wiggling! A friend used to have a 30 foot boat that we went out of San Francisco Bay under the Golden Gate to salmon fish during the season. He had a Weber Kettle mounted to the deck and the first salmon caught was immediately thrown on a hot grill with a little alder wood smoke and a dill dipping sauce. It just does not get any better then that.

It Does......if the Webber is on the beach.....:crying:....I can't eat if I'm seasick.....:crying:

When I was a young man we used to get abalone at Cayucos low tide and we would just stand on the beach with a bonfire to stay warm and eat the raw abalone with a squeeze of lemon. Wild abalone are a thing of the past unless you free dive for them up around Fort Brag - talk about shark bait. Splashing around the surface with bleeding abalone attached to your belt!

There is an edible mollusc in the shallows of the beach here....you often see people sifting for them and eating them raw...:biggrin:
